i tend to watch a six month cycle, meaning i will watch anything i can get my hands on for 6 months. ( almost to the point of overload) then i take a 6 month break. this cycle has followed me for almost 35 years. rinse, lather, repeat. i found it tends to renew my interest. Hence i will watch anime til i die lol.

when I first started watching anime I was so in love..there were so many interesting titles I thought my head would explode. Now it seems like most anime is so heavy on the fan service.
I don't mind fan service if its on the caliber of Aya and Maya Natsume or has a sensational story like Kite...but unfortunately, thats rarely the case. So I am not in love as I once was. I am not as excited over the new titles, well, most anyway, maybe anime has lost its edge as it tries to go mainstream.

I think we all started out that way, and it was usually when you were young. It's just a product of growing up, being exposed to a lot of anime (think about it like the Law of Diminishing Returns), having less time to spend on watching, or more concerning things to focus on. Happened with me and is still occurring. I can't watch nearly as much anime as I could when I first got into it. If you started off like I did and was enchanted by almost every anime I watched, but are now kind of jaded, just take a break. You don't have to watch if you don't want to, and, for me at least, you can still re-watch those epic animes you started off with to re-spark your interests. I don't think its at all between whether or not anime is going more "mainstream" or whatever that means, it's about the reason why you are watching that matters. Getting tired of a certain genre, try another, don't be close minded or else you'll box yourself in. Hope this helped

Yeah. I agree w/ OP. It seems as though their is ALOT of crap to sift through before getting to the good stuff. More often than not I find myself going back to the "classics" (for prospective I'm under 30). Outlaw Star and Ronin Warriors to name a few. The stuff that had actual substance, and didn't jerk you around for more than 40 episodes or so.

As a matter of fact, a buddy of mine and I had a discussion once...if you look at some of the , arguably, best anime, most if not all have less than 30 episdoes ( in some cases per season). Ghost in the Shell is one fine example, FLCL, High School of the Dead, Tri-Gun, Outlaw Star, and Kino's Journey just to name a few.

All in all I do still like anime, but I've found too much of it I can't take seriously as get older. The "gritty" stuff is becoming more and more hard to find. But for the sake of my subscription to this service, I dare someone to name some gritty anime titles, that haven't already been listed, and are fewer than 30 episodes.

BTW: I've already seen Deadman Wonderland, and I'm finishing up "K" on Hulu.

I kind of feel you. But then again, when a series starts that i really like, it's the same child-like love for anime all over again. I also re-watch the shows that I love.

I re-watch more than I watch new stuff :x

Sort of,but i have a good system to prevent me from losing my interest in Anime.

While I'll still watch some of the title coming out, i have a section on my list that i like to call my "Emergency Ration's" section, where i purposely withhold on watching certain title's.

Why?

Well, lets say a seasons new title's are very lacking, much like the new winter line up this year, I'll then proceed to bust open my rations, and then pull out something i know I'll enjoy. Most of the Titles on the list are usually well acclaimed, With a mix of new and old Anime.

Some examples include Berserk, Mushishi, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Monster, Eureka Seven, Outlaw Star, Planetes, etc.

This way, i always have something great to watch while certain title's pick up, other shows in the line up start airing, or even just wait it out until the next seasonal line up.

So while I'm sure I'll always enjoy at least one title in a season's new line up, or maybe, find most of the title's are lackluster, I'll always have something to fall back on,so I'll always remember all the good things about anime, and not just the bad.

As of right now, I'm enjoying Azumanga Daioh from my ration's, so I'm not losing interest in anime, anytime soon!

It's a great way to optimize your anime viewing, and i highly recommend it.

I thought Anime was the best thing since slice bread when I first stumbled across it and thought I would die an old man loving Anime, but anyone else feel as they got older they sorta started losing interest in watching Anime? I'm not saying I hate it but for me it's not as good as it use to be. I use to be excited to come home from school and the first thing I would do was watch the next episode of Naruto or something and time would fly by. I just don't feel the same way.

Just watching the newer Anime titles; take for example Sword Art Online, I have no idea how people find this Anime in any way, shape or form amazing.

I mean I wouldn't completely stop watching Anime as it has been a huge part of my life. I feel like I've watched all the 'greats' and can never find that sense of nostalgia since I first watched Trigun, Death Note, Cowboy Bebop or whatever Anime.

Does anyone else feel this way or is it just me?

Start drinking beer when you watch anime it makes it a lot better after you have had a couple of beers

I can't imagine getting bored with anime. I am constantly watching something new that I love. I absolutely loved titles such as Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Kore wa Zombie Desu ka?, Steins;Gate, School Rumble, Welcome to the NHK, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, and even Listen to Me, Girls, I’m Your Father! (my most recently watched anime). All of these shows are better than anything I've seen that isn't anime. Anyone who is getting tired of anime just isn't watching the right titles. Even this season, we have The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, Kotoura-San, Maoyu, and several other titles that look great to me.

At some points I do feel like I'll stray away from anime.

But then I gain my interest back by watching a new show.

Then the cycle starts anew.

there was a period of a few years where I thought I'd lost interest in anime. but then I went back and reviewed what I had watched and truly piqued my love for anime. basically, my tastes had changed as I became exposed to more anime.

I think that you got to take breaks as I'm sure people have pointed out. I had cycles where during summer break I would sit and watch anime ALL DAY no joke. But once school started i didn't really even touch it. I would just suggest taking a breeak

I know what you mean. My advice to you is to find a blog of a person who has very similar interests as you. I too can't honestly understand why people love SAO so much. I thought it was too overrated and generally lacking of character.

Stop reading reviews. Go on a hipster adventure and check out anime that no one else really seems to know of.
This blog is pretty good, and she generally likes anime that is a little above the generic "let's please people with moe characters and flashy battle scenes."

I think you'd like her since your list of "greats" is generally the type of anime I really love to this day. :)
check her out! You might find something you like! :

--- EDIT ----

Also, having an account on a site that helps you keep track of shows you want to watch are really helpful. I use animeplanet.com and I love it because it generally always leads me to anime I really enjoy due to suggestions and going through the numbers. (For some reason my favorites are actually up there with the rank 50+... I guess I just don't have the same taste as most people.)
