(And no, it's not cause they have eye patches xD)

In my opinion, no male character can beat Emiya Kiritsugu from Fate/Zero. His character is just amazing, in so many ways. Those that blame him for what he does, simply doesn't understand what this man truly stands for, and what he's willing to do to accomplish his goals. Some of his methods are evil, yes. But it's an necessary evil. You might not agree with me, but that's what we have opinions for.


As for female character of the year, I'm just going to go with Naze Youka from Medaka Box: Abnormal. Simply because she's awesome. Minor spoiler regarding her identity in the picture, btw.

I second Inaba Himeko (Kokoro Connect) for females


And Nanba Mutta (Space Brothers) takes the cake for the males

Best Female: Definitely Momiji (Binbougami Ga!)


Best Male: Aikawa Ayumu (Kore wa Zombie desu ka?)


Both are hilarious and some of my personal favorites this year!

Favorite Female Character:



Jenny Dolittle from Bodacious Space Pirates. Every episode she was in was great. Loved her "Fools" reply in Episode 5.

Hasuta/Hastur from Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos. One of the most deredere characters that Rie Kugumiya has ever played.

My favorite character of the year was Kaname Chris from Pretty Rhythm


My favorite male character was Mutta from Space Brothers, shown above.

Midorima Shintarou, Kuroko no Basket

Awashima Seri, K Project

My all-time favorite female lead -- and she doesn't even have a name. What she does have, though, is smart-ass remarks for any situation, and one of the most finely tuned bullshit detectors I've ever seen. She is calm, intelligent, and utterly hilarious. The most ridiculous and dangerous situations are no match for her wit and sarcasm. If the things you're doing don't make any sense, you can rest assured that she will calmly judge you while smiling away at your stupidity.

My favorite male character for 2012 is a man of few words, and definitely one of the coolest in Anime. Willing to ignore troublesome things like honesty and pride to make the world a better place, he is one of the few "justice" oriented characters that actually has a realistic and logical view of the world. Only the most sensible and efficient options are on the table, and he will even turn against his own system of reasoning if he finds the result unsatisfactory. His personal struggle and commitment to principles make him a conflicted but resolute character, and one of my favorites for 2012.
