Do you feel like you have purpose?

mwhitco91 wrote: Nope, I feel purpose-less! I live out my life working, making a living, earning an education, getting a job, making friends, making memories and loving someone, but it'll all go away when I die. Sure, you could argue that it's not pointless, but it sure will be when I'm forgotten 50-100 years after dying. ^_^ Sure, you could then argue that your goal should be making history, but what's history? "This guy was a war hero. But then, he died." *Class sighs out of boredom.* Sure, you cou--okay, forget it. We're all going to die and lose every bit of experience we ever had, so what's the point of thinking about it? Again, this is like trying to answer "What is the meaning of life?" There isn't one. Just live it. I think your absolutely right |

Ok so I might help with one thing so for the degree thing just find out what you are good at or you beat people at and do that it's what I basically do but to answer your question yes I do feel like life sometimes just doesn't have a point so I make my own point and my current point is to have as many experiences as I can no matter if they are good or bad I just want them

Yeah, I've felt that way myself, undecided on what to do and how I'll be in the future. I personally feel everyone has a purpose, but for some reason not me. I rather not continue any further to elaborate on why, but it's just how I feel. Since you're 17, you shouldn't have to worry too much on what you would like to do in life. I'm sure you'll discover it sooner or later in the future.

To always just think that the purpose of life is just to survive and to reproduce means you believe that life is just about suffering. The goal in life is to be happy. To always just think that there MUST be a purpose, means you suffer from delusions of grandeur. I don't think it's all about suffering. Survival is an intricate mechanism between billions of organisms ranging from microscopic, to massive animals. There is beauty in that system and it's simplicity. Humans suffer from ego, and the belief that somehow they are meant for "purpose". Without that longing for purpose the suffering dwindles. Why would humans even come into existence then? There is no point in evolving as a species just to destroy the planet and each other. Humans can't destroy the planet, we can destroy ecosystems and environments that benefit us but we can't destroy it by being here. Organisms, particularly microorganisms, will continue to survive no matter how much we pollute the planet. The primitive Earth was even more toxic yet microorganisms were the first organisms to survive through that toxic environment. Killing each other is obviously about survival and territories, observed in many other animals. Evolution is caused by randomness. We just happened to develop intelligence as part of our survival trait, there is no predestined purpose for any organism. But we are polluting the planet at a rate that will make it inhospitable for us, are we not? Why would we develop intelligence to the point where it would be responsible for our destruction? Do you know how inhospitable the Earth is right now? Earthquakes, flood, hurricanes, volcanoes are just few examples. Yet people still flourish. The population is at 7 billion, it is estimated to exponentially increase to 30 billion over the next decades. There was a huge ozone hole yet that didn't decrease the population number. We're experiencing enhanced global warming right now. The technology from human's intelligence allowed humans to survive longer and babies that were supposed to die were able to survive and live on normally. Many diseases and some cancers can be cured. People can travel everywhere. The government cares for the safety of its citizens. Humans' intelligence and inventions have killed millions of lives... but have helped billions in return. We're not destroying ourselves, that is an incorrect assertion. If you're worried about the amount of Carbon Dioxide being released into the air, it is a good concern, but countries all over the world are already working together to reduce the amount being released into the air. Ethanol cars are being researched further. With our intelligence and continually evolving scientific methods, we're not going to destroy ourselves by our own technology. P.S. The only way human population would dramatically decrease would be if there is another worldwide epidemic like Smallpox... or for instance, if something like HIV can be spread by respiratory airways... then you should be concerned. And that is caused by nature, not by people's intelligence. |

NO. This exact question has been on my head, and i really feel like I dont. When I think about what "career" fits me best, I can only think of being a hikikomori, i just right now everything seems worthless to me except for living and the internet/anime.

It is purpose that created us.
Purpose that connects us. Purpose that pulls us. That guides us. That drives us. It is purpose that defines us. Purpose that binds us. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide ![]() |

I believe we have a purpose.
I mean: If you have no purpose you are worth zero/nothing, do you see yourself as being nothing? And if we are worthless; why then do we have laws to protect life, liberty, and love? Things which reek of purpose. I don't know about you but I don't see myself being worth nothing. |

At some point, I wonder to myself that question a lot. Considering I'm in college now, I do feel like I have a purpose to live. I need to compensate my parents for bringing me up, and not make them struggle for money anymore. After getting a job, I plan on being a game designer/creator or just in a game company. My purpose for entering the gaming world is to show young people the same feeling I had when I play a game.
Each of us have a purpose. It's the matter of finding it. You won't know your purpose in life until you found what is it that you like to change and what is your goal. Finding your purpose have to be from experience and observations. That's all I can say. |
