no animals? You didn't say anything about plants. Find some leaves/berries to eat. Fight on and survive.

I would drink water and try to find more food, because you can live up to 1-2 weeks without food if you have water -.- I guess I would try to eat it, but I'm not sure:P

I was thinking this for a bit and then again I kept thinking about how much it'd blow to go hungry for a while....So I'll go with the mold. I mean it's the apocalypse. I'd rather be the bro eating mold than eating people.

Isn't it possible to go a few weeks without food? It's water that you have to worry about

If you eat the moldy food would you just get sick and throw it up? That would defeat the whole purpose of eating it.

I'd keep going. If worse comes to worst then I'm resorting to cannibalism.

I'm having trouble coming to grips with the original terms of your proposal.

I haven't eaten for 3 days, Yet I've had food that I didn't eat for 3 days, and has now gone moldy. This situation seems rather asinine. I either ate all the food, or hadn't eaten in 3 days BECAUSE the food I had was moldy. I would not have put off eating the food to THEN find it moldy.

However assuming I was this incredibly stupid, or more likely subjugated, to have only brought with me perishable goods on a random journey into, instead of previously inhabited and civilized areas, what seems to be a veritable wasteland with little hope of having found food water or animals in the FIRST place. I would indeed just eat the food. The energy levels in the food haven't really gone down, And most mold can be removed fairly well. Of course I'm also assuming, given my presumed choices above, that'd I'd have also been exceedingly wise to have NOT brought medication with me to counter act any kind of food poisoning or infections I may get on my idiot journey through an empty stretch of nothing.

He never said anything about water. Therefore...

If water is a concern, last thing you want to do is dehydrate yourself with vomit or diarrhea. So don't even consider the moldy food.

On the other hand, regardless of the water situation, grass, most flowers/mushrooms in North America, even tree sapplings will sustain you for at least an extra week. Almost forgot, we've got tons of acorns and pine cones around here. They're not only edible but high in protein and fat.

Same goes for other countries. There are edible food sources all around, unless you're in severe desert like the Sahara, ect.

EDIT: Btw, if you see mold on the outside, doesn't mean it's not on the inside, or invisible to the naked eye. If you see any mold at all, the odds are it's more entrenched than you think. Just didn't want you to be misinformed about the dangers.

Very true, but I attempted not to take what he said too far out of context, because he also neglected to mention whether there was plenty of vegetables and other foods around. Along with workable land to grow and cultivate simple foods. infact, he also neglected to specify whether I could be a robot, therefore screw food. Solar panels!

Bio 101. The mold will fucking kill you. Toss it and hope you find something fresh.

Some molds cause allergic reactions and respiratory problems. And a few molds, in the right conditions, produce mycotoxins, poisonous substances that can make you sick.

Guess they don't teach that in Bio 101.

Um I'm confused. So you're agreeing with me? Or are you supporting my claim that mold is bad...but saying that I'm stupid at the same time?

No, you're not stupid. Mold can be very dangerous. I was just saying that it's not so black and white... there are green molds, brown molds, red molds... sorry couldn't help myself.

But yeah, mold bad, though few are fatal, was my point.

Mold is what the antibiotic penicillin is made from. I say go ahead and eat it and hey, you might not catch that disease you came across on a leaf the day before because you've already taken some anitbiotics.

If you die, then oh well. If that is the state of things, then the world is a post-apocalyptic nightmare anyway.

Starving isn't as bad as it sounds. I starve.

We can make a bet too. But I'd win.

I would honestly hold the molding food for a little while until I can find another source. If all hope is lost, eat the moldy food and hope I die.

snakes, bugs, much to eat in the world as well as deer and other wild life. One would have to learn to forage again for food.
with all those new food sources one would be able to get by,

If you've survived the initial apocalypse, you probably won't give a shit about dying.

I'll eat the molded food, still to survive. After that, I'll move forward and search for food supplies. I have no choice. I need something to eat.
