I'm happy the recent one have not been Facebook ones (I hate those). Sometimes just a random lottery of people who sign up here (pick a name out of the hat) is good sometimes. I am not saying to have that replace the contests but sometimes we are just not interested in trying to outdo someone drawing or singing or whatnot. Just a simple "enter by this date and random lottery". Easier not to screw up and to me seems more fair. Just a thought to add to the mix.

Also and this may sound strange.. but I want to know where to get some of the prizes.. like I've been looking for where to buy the karuta cards from Chihayafuru and I still can't find where you can purchase it. :(

They are out there. Expensive as hell, but they are out there. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Chihayafuru-Ogura-Hyakunin-Isshu-Karuta-with-CD-One-Hundred-Waka-Poems-JPN-/190768687296?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c6ab328c0

Heck if it wasn't for the 20 bucks shipping I'd say that's still cheaper than what I found AND it has a CD with it..

I found one that the cards alone go for 20 bucks:
http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/ojiisan/item/410136/#reviewsOf

But I like the other set since it has a CD with it However.. it STILL had to be bought somewhere.. I'd rather get it from a retailer than someone on ebay.

Most any contest involves some sort of artistic ability that many others don't have, so I think it will be insanely difficult to have many contests that don't involve such skills. For instance, I'm good at drawing; writing, not so much, but I would still consider trying it. I have seen it where it appeared to me a winner was chosen more for creativity than artistic ability, so worrying about not having a certain skill set, such as drawing, might not be as big of an issue. I've already seen a wide variety of contests in the time I've been here, so I think CR is doing a good job with picking their contests. I'm not sure how a quiz contest would work since someone could just use the internet to research a show they have not seen. I also think it would be good to not have contests that benefit those who are more prosperous and have access to expensive devices or computer software. I don't know if that has ever been an issue, so this isn't any sort of accusation; just a thought I wanted to bring up.

Here's one contest idea I thought of for this holiday season:
Christmas Cookie Contest

I remember attending a Christmas party a few years back where one activity was decorating Christmas cookies. I think this would be a great idea that many people can participate in and enjoy. The rules could be something like this:
1) The cookies must be made from scratch.
2) The cookies must be 100% edible. Accessories could include icing, M&M's, sprinkles, etc.
3) Since cookies are usually relatively flat, any decorations should not exceed a certain reasonable height. Of course, this could be enforced by requesting that pictures be taken overhead, or bird's-eye-of-view.
4) Any anime can be used. (However, if this is used, please don't judge based on what anime appeals to you, the judge.)
5) Winners will be chosen based on quality and creativity.

I like this idea because, even if I lose, I still get cookies!

Why not hold poem contests or who can write the best short story centered around a certain topic. I think that would be fun.

The problem with a knowledge-based contest is that for the most part, anybody could get the info easily/quickly. It'd have to be a contest where you couldn't find the answer online, you'd have to have prior knowledge to win. I myself enjoy the drawing contests because I like to draw and they help me improve. Something involving food would also be fun, basically any contest where mostly everyone has access to doing it works.

I would like to see a contest for Say "I love you." actually be a romantic style of contest. Post love poetry to win!

Sword Art Online is not catered towards the most intellectual, but rather to the MMO gamer. (I still like MMO's but just saying they don't take brains to win, just team work at best case.) Hmm. I say we have a beat the boss challenge! Click a link to send a jab at a boss, After so many clicks the account who gets the winning hit wins! Have a tiny tiny chance of each click winning, only problem I see with this is I would so macro it to win.

Just some ideas.

Drawing gives favor to those who are good at art. Basically, if you're trying to make it so ANYONE can win that is the incorrect way to do it.

I have participated in only one contest, and don't know much about all the contests that have been done in the past, but here are my $0.02:

I do not mind drawing contests. I think if anyone is into anime, it should be understood that a big part of it is graphic art. I kind of expect that contests related to anime would be about drawings. I am not a great artist, but I enjoy seeing others' entries and if I ever feel like I could draw something, I'd get in on it. I almost entered for the Saint Seiya Omega contest, but I didn't think of a cool enough idea in time. If you want to experiment, maybe on some contests limit the medium to something specific, like a digital-only contest, or a crayon-only contest lol.

Another big part of anime is cosplay. I would never do it, but I won't mind if there are cosplay contests in the future even if.. I mean.. especially if it's just girls participating.

Another part of anime is fanfics, fakesubs, fakedubs, and AMVs. Again, I understand not everyone has the ability nor equipment to create something like an AMV, but it'd be nice to see what people come up with for a contest. Besides, I don't know if there would be any copyright wrinkles to iron there, but if it was legally possible, it would be awesome.

In the fanfic department, I would be ok with written contests but I understand if they are less feasible due to the time it takes to read them.

Talking about fakesubs, it could be nice if you could get american voice actors to voice the winner script, but I understand if you don't have that kind of power, or it would take a while, I know they are busy people, and you'd also have to get permission from the Japanese licensor and possibly background audio so it sounds legit.

How about an acting contest, where someone would enter a video of a group acting a certain scene. Except you might have to give away more than a one prize since it would include a group of winners.

Poems would be a nice theme for a contest, and even better, if they were haiku, although you'd have to specify what type of haiku it would be since I think in english there are different kinds.

Singing contests are a nice idea, but I won't be entering lol, you'd thank me for it :D

Cooking/baking contests would also be awesome. How about food that comes up in anime often? Meronpan, choco cornets, valentines'/white day's chocolates, crepes, omeraisu, udon (now that Nanba-kun has shown us how to do it from scratch on Space Brothers ep 19), or bento art. The contests could focus on the presentation of the dish itself so the entries can be just pictures, or you could focus on the delivery of a how-to video.

I've noticed that with My Little Nightmare you have now reviews contests, I'd like to see more of those.

The caption the screencap contest for My Little Monster was actually a lot of fun, keep those coming too.

Basically, I don't mind if a particular contest caters only for a certain kind of person. After all, I doubt there could be but few (if any) contests that would cater to anyone and everyone.

About how the contests are handled...

In a way, I like to see entries be posted on the contest thread, it keeps people from posting the same idea twice and it livens up the discussion, but at the same time, it can be discouraging for some people to see what they are up against. If I were in charge of them, I'd have contestants email their entries so others can't see them, and then at the end of the contest, and at the end of the thread, post the winner/s followed by the runner ups. If you don't do this for picture contests, it should be done with writing ones so you don't get suspicious about people using the same ideas in their writings.

The rules and due dates have to be clear and strict. You could set a specific time to submit by in GMT so the time limit is universal.

From what others have said, it sounds like judging is up to one person. It should be up to three. Call them Melchior (The scientist), Caspar (The woman) and Balthazar (The mother) LOL. If not three, any odd number of judges should work, except for 1.

You could make one contest for the same theme or series, but with winners on different categories so more people have a chance to win. For example: Make a drawing contest for X anime, but have one winner for most impressive drawing, one for most unique concept, and one for the cutest drawing. That way, more people would have a chance to win, although I understand that this would also mean you'd have to give away three things of the same value instead of one.

If you can't do the above, maybe you could explain the decision making in terms of different categories applied to each entry. For example, your three judges could rate the entries based on a scale from 1 to 10 on categories such as how well the drawing is made, how well it fits in the anime it is based on, how novel the idea is, how well thought out the details of the drawing were, and so on. That way, people would not be discouraged only because their artistic skills are not as high as others'. Showing the ratings would also let people know how the judges came to their conclusions without having to explain much.

The singing sounds fun. I like contest that asks you to be creative but not judge on artist ability since i have none. The show your love for crunchyroll back in october was pretty cool. I think a acting contest or a personall voice over thing would be fun.
