I agree that something that anyone can participate in would be nice. Personally, I find most of the contests too geared towards skills I don't have, which is why I don't really participate. Plus the fact that they're contests in general that only a few people can win is also a turn-off for me. A few random drawings here and there wouldn't hurt.

I've participated in a couple at least of the contests so far and imo they are pretty fair, making a birthday card for naruto was fun!

I don't mind singing contests, but it's not something I would actively want to participate in, but it's good to switch it up a bit.

I enjoyed the Un-go thing where we earn the badge, that was fun - maybe more of those? In the end of the day you can't truly please everyone, if you do a cosplay one - not everyone cosplays so those that don't will feel discouraged and like one member stated he felt bad cause he's disabled and couldn't draw; so it's like sh*t :(

Drawing/semi-artistic and writing seems more universally acceptable in contests, now that I think about more "search and active participation" contests would be better for most of CR members such as watching a new/old series episodes 1-5 etc. and answer the questions and then you'll be entered in this or that drawing and everyone who gets entered receives a unique badge for that contest - no one needs to draw or write, all we gotta do is watch anime; cause when you get a bit fancy like make a video like for the ps3 for example, didn't seem like many ppl participated for a pretty damn good prize.

Contests like the following would be nice:

1. Who can make the best pun or joke for an anime

2. Who can write the best alternative ending to an anime (have a word limit to avoid epic novel submissions)

3. Have people make their best guess on an ongoing series about who is going to kiss who, who is going to fight who and on which episode

...I'll think of more later

Here's some random ideas. Sorry if they're repeats.

Rather than a story, how about some spoofs. A manga magazine cover. Or an ad page selling who knows what. You wouldn't have to draw as you could collage found images together. The text would probably be the funniest part. Or writing the artist's column that's in the sidebars of volumes. Sorry if I'm not using all the proper terms. My brain's asleep tonight.

Write a how-to article or a serious article on culture; Japan, Seinen, Kpop, etc. Or a parody.

As for crafts: design a plushy of your favorite character. Or an apron contest; maid, Gundam suits and the like. I can see it. Anybody make their own ornaments? How about crochet chibi figures?

Put a character in the most opposite or unlikely situation for them. It could be written, drawn or cosplay.

A storyboard that is photographs only.

A contest of puns; visual or verbal. They could be spoken, written, sung, drawn, photographed.

Design a menu or party for a specific set of characters or world. Want to invite Usui Takumi and Lelouch great, how would you plan the evening. Pick a country from Hetalia and create a dish.

I love the drawing contests, but maybe a fun twist like a gender-bend would be fun X3
...Or maybe a 4 panel comic strip :D
Or make an art contest but based on some alternative media like a clay model or toothpick sculpture or something along those lines
Cosplay contests could also be interesting

Drawing ones are OK but they need to be shows with more interesting things to draw.

I like the writing idea. What about a short story or Fanfic of that series. Maybe a AMV contest? That can take a lot of skill and could be interesting to see the results.

Maybe something like identify that character. You would show some small piece of that character that's unique to them and if you guess right then you are entered in a lottery. Or it can be in shadow form like how Pokemon used to do it it in their original series.

That's not .... anime... related ?
What DOES THAT MEAN.

I think you read my statement wrong lol
Most of CR viewers are like myself - we'll never dress up or draw. What we do do is enjoy watching anime.
So any sort of contest of knowledge of certain shows or genres, quizes, tests, would probably do better then cosplay contests >_>

I happen to agree with SoTa_PoP that we need a contest for the avg. viewer that isnt interested in dressup or artistic themes can join in.

I think that there is a silent majority of very avg. people people that feel snubbed by you & CR in regard to contests

I did win a regular contest a couple years ago. That was fun and its how I got my ROKU unit that is on more than the TV broadcasting.

The singing contest would be cool. IT could be singing the op/ed of an anime or writing your own song that talks about one of your favorite anime.

First I want to say I've been fairly happy with the past several contests (spanning at least the whole year maybe?). I really disliked the badge contests, because there were so many "dishonest" participants, and I'm not much for rewatching what I've already seen so honest participation was difficult. All these art and craft contests I've been really happy to see, although I haven't participated in too many.

What PRIMARILY drives up my desire to participate is getting to see others participating. I am driven by inspiration, and it is easy to gain more from watching others be likewise inspired. I think the main remaining improvement to contests would be to make others' submissions more visible. Ideally a way to have high visibility on submissions as they come in would be great, but organizing something (more than top 3-5 winners) afterward works too. I don't really think CR has any tech in place to make this easy though, aside from maybe the contests email (organizing a group to take submissions and organize a gallery as they come in I think would do wonders for promoting the contests). Forums are a mess, that isn't high visibility at all, a dated technology still around just because of relative ease of implementation.

As far as prizes and contest contents go, I think you've been doing great. I don't really participate for the prize, but being able to say a drawing I did won a contest is nice (gunpla would have me aim for the prize though). I love to see drawing contests, but other things like papercraft are cool to see too. Stuff that results in fan works in general are preferable, but smaller stuff is fine too. I remember liking those older quiz/hunt types, so long as one that has already watched would have an upper hand in answering quickly (those are unexciting though, merely easily motivated to participate in).

Please leave any Facebook bias out of contests still. It's not the use of Facebook itself that is a problem; feel free to use Facebook in a contest so long as you equally include other social media. Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ are the big three. CR's use of Twitter counts for nothing, and CR is completely absent from G+ last I checked. Utilizing Reddit someday would also be smart.

Skit sket dance contest i've been trying to get this one across, basically make a comedy skit based on the many you see in the series. whether its drawn or video or even a script.

i don't mind singing contest, as long as i don't have to sing. i would rather play with a vocaloid software to sing for me. this would be perfect for say "I love you".

for sword art online arc 2, i think its best to stick with drawing there. or maybe created a 500 word story line for your own character in the world but than you don't have enough to go on for the second arc.

i haven't seen wooser so i have no clue with that.

i would love to see more variety, but the fine arts are the easiest to deal with.

o i would really love a cooking competition but i don't think you guys own an existing cooking anime in your catalog.

rants:

also other ideas for contest include:
- photoshop/ collage of picture/screen shots

- essay about an episode on a certain topic or idea

- winters coming up, so snowman/ fort building contest!!!!!!

- a prediction contest, only on non game/manga based anime

- lego building contest

I love all of the contest we had so far, i joined any that was possible to do with my restraint time. i have a bunch of unfinished artwork for contest such as the spaceship design and the magi.

Also another idea that popped in, a puzzle contest first to solve 3 of them wins. Phi brain relevence. and im pretty good at making them, so i wouldn't mind sitting out and helping you guys making them. or if you want something more interactive: 2 part contest. each contestant has to design a puzzle within a period of 2 week- 4 weeks and post it. part 2 is whoever solves the most wins in a week to 2 week period. to be fair, have them email you the puzzles with the answer so that noone can have a head start.

I like creative contests since you can show something unique and not just Google the answer.... Although I've only seen one contest as It was the first time I noticed that there were contests. also contests can't be too generic otherwise judging would be impossible, hence why they don't have a lot of mixed media in a art contest but they could judge on different categories related to that creative outlet, like hand made vs digital or whatever.
