I've been racially stereotyped as the pretty boy--black guy who can get girls. A guy asked me if I can help him with getting a date/girlfriend. I felt awkward and told him just because I'm black doesn't mean I can get a girl for you. Sad part, he was in my class and I had to put up with it for awhile. I'm not the guy for favors, I mean come on. He was desperate...feel sorry for the guy.

Yes all the time, by my own family members mostly. Since everyone in my family is outspoken I turned out to be the black sheep. Very reserved and quiet, small voice etc. Most of the time they say I'm weird, or joke about how I'm white. Since I've been dealing with it for so long I just ignore it. I've also had people ask me questions like, why do you listen to rock? Don't you like rap? I hate how people assume that just because you're black you must love rap music, and if you don't then you're obviously a weirdo.

Not too mention I've had countless people imply that I must be mixed (probably because of my skin tone). One time it got so bad I actually yelled 'I'm black' at a guy. He kept asking question after question about my ethnicity.

Pretty much all the time. I go to a university where the majority of the people are white, so I get asked a lot of questions. Then they always think it's funny to point out stuff about me like the way I talk, but I shrug it off.

I live in a mainly Hispanic area and get stereotyped on occasion for being white. I don't really take too much notice of it, because I know not everyone is like that.
And when I mention that I was born in Germany, I have had several people ask me whether I was a Nazi........... seriously....

Not really, I may be 80% Hispanic (Argentine to be exact) but I do not act like a hispanic girl. I'm to nerdy for that XD

Just curious, what is your ethnicity? Yes I have been racially stereotyped. I was once asked if I ate DOG Or "Do you speak Chinese?" despite the fact that Chinese is not a language nor am I Chinese -___- .And most of the time I get "I didn't expect you to sound like that, you know sooo WHITE" by ignorant ppl who think all asian ppl have a heavy accent. LOL I usually laugh @ those who make those ignorant remarks. But just spittin out random shit right now, my bf gave me a nick name which is "NOODER" (how he swears Asian ppl pronounce noodle, I guess we all replace our "L's" with "R's" and vice versa) because obviously us Asians love NOODLES

"privilege, privilege, privilege"... some people should just stay on tumblr

Be grateful for what you have, stop complaining
Other people have it worst, stop complaining
Your problems are not that bad, stop complaining
…and the world would be a better place

You realize this is underlying reactionary ideas right?

Sounds like you are saying only people that are part of an oppress group have merit to complain about these particular issues. That’s backwards thinking, prejudice not to mention retarded. It's not about who has the most privileges, it about racial stereotyping being wrong.

People instantly assume I'm Chinese, Korean, or Japanese most of the time (usually Chinese) and proceed to regard me as such, which irritates me greatly even though I'm aware that, me being a stranger to them, they usually don't know about the festering animosity between Taiwan and China or that many Taiwanese consider themselves no longer a part of the mainland. People who think I'm Korean tend to be Koreans, who will then attempt to communicate with me in Korean (of course I have no clue what they are saying). People who think I'm Japanese tend to start talking about anime stuff, which I don't really keep up with and seems pretty racist. I'd be slightly offended if I really was Japanese.

Moral of the lesson: Don't be afraid to ask a person about their background. Listen when they answer. Proceed appropriately. It's much less offensive than assuming they are something, and makes you seem like a considerate person rather than an ignorant tool.

Funny because I'm African American mixed with other ethnicities and people think I can jump and play basketball due to my skin color. Well, I cant jump for shit and can barely dribble a ball while running.

But I can run fast. Really fast.

I think I might have posted on this thread before. Maybe it was another. Either way...

Yes. I get classified as a Mexican or Hispanic (are they the same; I dunno) constantly because of my inherited dark skin from my mother. Strangely enough, my race is nowhere near Mexican. There are these two islands, the Trinidad and Tobago Islands, off the northeastern tip of South America, and I'm maybe an 8th of that. Her father was black, and I inherited a pretty natural dark skin. As much as I hate my skin, I can't help but smile when a non-racist person says it makes me look sexy. Because well, who doesn't like compliments on things we hate about ourselves. I hate my complexion, and just glow with a blush(yes guys can blush) when someone tells me that my skin looks very nice.

Sigh...Why the fuck can't racism just die?

On a side note, yes, I have a feeling I posted here. That, or I considered but never did.

Edit: My pic that I just updated doesn't really show much to validate any of this, but I get darker quickly when I stay out in the sun. That was one of my Senior pics, and among one of my most recent pictures in general, where my complexion lightened. If I took a pic after spending time in the sun for a few days, I'd be fairly black. Like, probably enough to be thrown into a completely different stereotype that I'm sure many know about. Yes, my skin darkens exponentially in the sun.

I get racially stereotyped........by my own race.

I don't speak Spanish and that's apparently mandatory of every mexican alive, but that does't stop people from speaking to me in it.......and they think I'm kidding when I say I can't speak it.

A few weeks ago I got classified as Italian though! That was wierd.

Not so much anymore but in middle school, some kids would ask me where my family keeps their pot of gold and if I've ever seen a leprechaun. There also was this one kid who was confused by the fact that I didn't have red hair; he would always ask me how I can be pure Irish if I don't have red hair.
