Whelp, time to marathon Code Geass again. This'll be like the 12th time I've rewatched it, and it may just be the last. The thought makes me a little sad...

Question for those who have seen Code GEASS, especially those who have seen both the subtitled version and the English dub. Since I plan to only make time for one of them before it expires, which version do you recommend?

Well, that very much depends. I enjoy subbed anime much more now than I do dubbed. It's a preference of style. I think most, not all, subs are superior to their English dubs. Some people don't like subs and would rather listen to the dialogue in English.

If you like dubs, the one for Geass isn't bad, but I still prefer the Sub.

I usually prefer the sub too in most if not all cases. Usually the only time I watch the dubs is on TV or when that's all that is available, such as Eureka Seven, GITS: SAC (Here's a Bandai title with no listed expiration date.) and Blood+ on Hulu. However, I remember thinking that the dub of Blood+ was exceptionally good. If that is also the case with Code GEASS, I thought I might take advantage since both versions are available. Since you said that it "isn't bad" though, which to me means nothing worthwhile, I guess I'll just go with the sub. Thanks for the response.

That might just be my bias coming through. i actually have no complaints about the Code Geass dub. I thought it was actually pretty well done. I've watched both versions twice, alternating them, and I can't say the sub is much better in this case.

Bandai has a history of running their US branch badly. I'm surprised they still had a US arm. One of their 1st attempts to enter the market had them trying to sell over priced VHS tapes exclusively over their website.

With the exception of Viz, I don't know of any directly owned Japanese anime/manga company in the US that didn't eventually stumble and fail.

Guess I'll have to marathon Zeta now. I was saving it for a rainy day. Wish I had known this was going to happen sooner.

I guess I'll have to take the time to watch the rest of Kurokami (last episode I watched was episode 9).

Feel bad for the Gundam and Code Geass fans though. Hopefully Sentai will license rescue both of those in the future(although I can see Funimation getting Code Geass and licensing the OVAs)

Bandai has a deathgrip on all its titles. There's no way it's going to let go of them. Not to mention they get uber anal about anyone who reproduces them in any way shape or form without their consent.

When I saw they put up Gundam 00 a long time ago I was extremely excited. Then I saw that it was english dubbed and that turned me off from ever watching an episode on Crunchyroll.

Well dang, unfortunate. I sure wish I knew the terms behind these so I could avoid negative speculation.

I had some progress on Kurokami between seasons, enjoying it yet interrupted by newly arriving shows. But I don't think I'll find the time to finish it in that period. I guess this means I won't see Kurokami to the end

Disappointing, but that seems to be Bandai's business model these days.

First we get stiffed on a Turn-A DVD release, and now they kill off their streaming licensces, which they don't actually have to do anything to continue providing, besides write down a number they want from CR, CR counters, haggling ensues and a price is aggreed upon that neither side is happy with but it keeps the product out there.

Honestly it makes me wish some corporation with enough cash (Samsung perhaps) would swoop in, buy Bandai/Namco and drop some massive global marketing on them, lower the prices for the JD market so it wasn't cheaper to buy foreign market copies and import them, and release titles everywhere. And maybe. and this is pure crazy old man talk, a simultaneous global release schedule. Yeah, that's right. Kill off the need for the fansub altogether. Those too broke or cheap to buy discs or streams can just suck it up and wait a week.

Or at the very least, allow individual titles to be licensed without bundling all the horrid crap you're trying to milk some money off of from someone, somewhere.

Well, enough ranting, I supopse I may as well sample Geass again to see if it's any less silly than the last time I tried watching it.

Thankfully I have MSG, ZG, WG and 00 on DVD already as well as the other essentials.
