Second Attempt (and entry)
I based both this entry as well as the previous attempt off of episode 5. I was hoping to express with the natural colors the "realness" that Yamato & Mei bring to each other. The gems on the left are to show the growth as both individuals and together as a couple because of their love. The right pearls show that they are still young and have much to grow still, but show promise they will blossom even further.
Key Alone:
I think I had a little too much fun with this..lol..glad i finished in time...was scared there for a little while.
I kept the first attempt below (but above is my entry):

I based this off mostly episodes 5 expressing the love from episode 5 using the pinks and whites to show the purity of Mei's and Yamato's love. The gold to show how important and rare and true love is, the pink spiraling down shows the twist and turns that love brings you with it, and the main green shows the growth as hope. The start of something new.

This is bologna, is this really your key? how come one picture? how come there is no paragraph tying the key in with the anime? How come i can google image 'steampunk keys' and keys like that show up.
If this really is your key I apologize for the accusation that it was not made by you.
If in fact it is not your key I suggest you take that posting down, it's not fair to those of us who actually put tangible work into this contest.

 I think it is based on episode 4. The flames I draw horrible:( it represent pain or hurt or thorn cause Mei got hurt when Megu-tan try(?) to break her or their relationship with Yamato. FYI: the hand that I draw with the thumb actully got hurt can't really draw:( >.< And I think it represent all cause I use the star as tear. The bar(?) that conect 2 hearts. The string by the star mean you could take the blue star out. 20 cause the magic key from Say "I Love You". Dimand. represent sharp,hurt, or pain too. Little circles represent friends/friendship,family,bond, and or supported people. My 1st time doing this >.< The marks are there cause I erased and draw to hard and edit it. Oh! I thought puting/drawing a yellow color ribbon on the bottom of the big heart or bar(?) if I put question mark it means I don't know what it is called

My keychain is based off Episode One since i think it's the biggest turning point for those two. It's a tie to the entire episode. The metal wraps around the heart represents a first-aid wrap when she kicked Yamato. [OUCH!] But also showing how it's the major kick off when she begins to unwrap her heart. Embedded with a blue heart gem because she starts off seeming as if she's a cold heart person...but her vulnerable and tender side shows when Yamato comes to rescue her at night. Embedding it with a pink star gem representing her warmer side and her first kiss in a starry night

heh... is it obvious i sorta lost the will to draw half way?
ok so:
My chain was inspired by episode 3, I believe. Believe it or not, mine doesn't actually center around Yamato/Mei. My key chain is about Aiko. She is tied for my favorite character in this series because she's like a human girl in every single way possible and it's possible to feel a connection. Anyways, so how does my key chain show the plot? My key chain is made of two shards of mirror and a key. The first mirror is clouded and dark showing Aiko in her past obsessing over looking perfect to get people to like her. The second mirror, however, is clear showing that she got over trying to look perfect; but instead, natural. And the key well... it's just there. I guess it's a key of love that she found.

These keys represent Yamato and Meis relationship among all the episodes so far,i made each key to suit each character Meis key is more basic and i think it suits her more being a cats paw with a love heart in(more so reminded me of the conversations she has with her cat at the end of each episode and of course the cat Yamato and Mei look after)
Yamato's key inst really related to much but i think it is more his style and it would suit him.
I did the wings on each key because as a couple Yamato and Mei are still just learning and they are doing it together and discovering more about them selves and each other and they cant do that by them self (such as you cant fly with one wing corny i know :P)
also as a set they flags of each key can fit into one another......
