Ok. Time to get to buisiness ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* \(◕△◕✿)/ *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Here is my entry~ (I just spent 6 hours rewatching the whole series just to get the correct references 。:゚(。ノω\。)゚・。 )
Something different; not your usual keychain, but hopefully it's effective!
Rather than this key being based on one single episode, it is based off several, and one revolving theme -
'Now matter what hardships the seasons give us when we are in love; if it's a true and pure kind of love, then we are able to overcome them because we have each other and those whom we love around to help and support us.'
The episodes that I noticibally referenced are -
-Episode 2 - Blue phone strap that Asami gave Mei
-Episode 4 - Couple bracelets given my Yamato
-Episode 5 - Nagi's cookies, Yamato#2
-Episode 7 - Gingko leafs
-Episode 12 - Wind chime, Camellia flower,
Visually speaking, here is a desciption of the keychain concept design itself -
The key itself is a majority of silver and tinted stainless steel - hence the lowly saturated colors pictured. The figure with the wings is meant to be a representation of Mei, in a form of an angel, holding a golden heart adorned with a red gem containing a small keyhold (the red heart can be pushed and spun around inside the golden border). The gold ring above her head serves a similar purpose as the one in the anime and can be seen as a halo as well. Hanging from this ring is a piece of paper, as associated with wind chimes. Moving downwards, there is a ginkgo leaf, icicle, cherry blossom, cookie, bow, plush bunny and cat; all in tinted stainless steel. (If it isn't apparent, similar beads from Yamato's and Mei's bracelets are also pictured towards the middle) Just below that mound of objects is blue fluff, and right below that is a small Camellia flower. There is a pink/purple gradient ribbon tied along the stem of the key.
Phew~ Ok, now onto the explainations and whatnots. ಥ ⌣ ಥ
The reason why Mei is represented as an angel is because of 2 reasons -
1 being that angels are often used as a picture of
innocence. In the anime and manga, Mei is untouched and uncorrupted by what's around her. She lived a life of solitude, isolating herself from her fellow classmates, and was unable to experience the supposedly regular life of a high school student. Her reasons and purpose for living that kind of lifestyle were are solely based off what had happened to her in the past. Living a life away from the tempations, bad influence, rumors, gossip, left Mei an innocent student.
2 Angels are also used as pictures of
purity and sincerity. Once Mei had found love with Yamato, she had developed sincere feelings for him. She was new to love, and so was he. She didn't know what to expect, and what would happen if she decided to continue loving him, but she knew that her feelings were true. No matter whatever or whoever pushed her down, she tried keeping a stoic face, keeping in all the tears and hurt that came with it.
A single tear leaves Mei face while keeping up a smile on the keychain because later on the series she realizes that she has friends who would lend her a shoulder to cry on when she just couldn't handle the pain alone.
Ever heard the saying that we lock our hearts to love? Mei at first was a very resilient girl, she didn't want herself to be associated with Yamato, she had closed off her heart to him. Little by little, he was able make his true feelings apparent to her.
You can say that Yamato was the key, the key to opening Mei's heart, and letting her experience the world around her that she never knew. However, since he's the key, he can both unlock, and lock her inner emotions. A heart is truely a complicated thing, isn't it?
A cherry blossom, wind chime, gingko leaf, and icicle are all here for a reason you know. These are placed here to represent the coming and going seasons. A cherry blossom is usually associated with Spring, wind chimes are commonly placed during the Summer time, yellowing gingko leads are often seen falling during the Fall season, and ice and snow begin to form once Winter makes its way to Japan. This holds a more deeper meaning than the seasons themselves though. It may or may have no been brushed up on the anime, but in the manga, it states that Mei and Yamato had been dating for more than a year.
Over the seasons, they had experienced a lot of things, together, for better and for worse. Their love had continued to stay strong even when what was in store for them conflicted with their relationship. Their love for each other was able to help them make it through it all.
Having the beads disassembled rather than linked shows that
even if they are sepereated, their very presence and reassurance is enough to know that they are there for each other. Mei mentions that everytime she recognizes the bracelet, she thinks of having Yamato next to her, and reminding her that she is not alone.
The bow is a common symbol for
femininity. After Mei falls in love, she appears to be (much) cuter~ She even grows out her hair and starts paying more attention to her clothing choices.
The cookie symbolizes her
connection with Yamato's little sister, Nagi. Mei was able to get her feelings through to Nagi, resulting in Nagi accepting Mei as her brother's boyfriend, and as a friend. She was able to show her the light of how her life was changed through of the help of her brother, making her realize that not everyone will dismiss you at their convinience.
The plush bunny and cat offer a small significance with Nagi as well. Nagi keeps a collection of stuffed animals that she made herself, and this also signifies the link she was able to establish with Mei. (the pink bunny ended up looking kind of like Yamato #2 ^ o ^' and the cat ended up lookin a bit like Mashmallow orz) Other than the fact that they are plush, both these animals play a role in the anime. In the first episode of the anime, Mei's elementary class had kept a pet bunny, however she was placed with blame once it had died,
resulting in her isolation. You can argue that the cat looks a bit like Mei's pet cat, Marshmallow, but this cat is merely used as
the bond Yamato and Mei were able to create through the discovery of a stray cat.
In episode 12 of the anime, Mei wears a yukata for the Summer Festival and was wearing a pink/purple Camellia flower in her hair (although I made it look like a rose ; u ;). A Camellia is interperated as a flower
whom young lovers appreciate. It shows the devotion that they have towards another. I believed that this flower was a great symbol for Mei's and Yamato's love for each other. Having the flower in full bloom also shows just how much Mei's character had developed throughout the series.
Lastly, I incooperated a ribbon to show the
fragile, yet beautiful and strong bond that comes with falling in love~
. . .
I'm done. I'm finally done. After spending 2 hours typing this up. /le crey
