A lot depends on the studio, and if the producer is on the publishing side or on the development side (I've done both). On the publishing side, you track P&L and handle first party submissions (if its console) and keep the overall project on track. On the dev side, you manage the internal dev teams (programming, art,. design), and buffer them from the publishing side, also tracking schedule...but since your studio's profitability is set up differently from the publishing side, your P&L calculations are totally different. As for languages...what platform? Some platforms demand C/C++, but nowadays with such a fractionalized game market, it totally depends on what you're making. Keep in mind game teams vary from one to several hundred, depending on the game, and that doesn't include marketing, or support and operations for MMOs.

Last place I worked I'd have to take an indoor fork truck outside to load conduit. Constantly got stuck.
