Sword Art Online, right next to K-ON!, Lucky Star, TMOHS, and Elfen Lied as one of the most controversial anime, with those who absolutely love it, and those who hate it more than North Korea hates South Korea. I personally enjoyed it, but once they had gotten out of SAO, it seemed like it just went downhill, to a generic Shounen... Now, let's have a little debate, what do YOU think they could have done to improve Sword Art? To perhaps have avoided this, as I like to call it, "K-ON! Syndrome".

Let's hear your opinion.

I enjoyed Sword Art Online until he beat the game and then moved on to the next arc and then it went downhill for me to the point I just didn't care anymore and dropped it. To be honest I think the series should have ended when he beat the game I would have been happy with that but this new arc is boring to me. I am sure people will disagree with me but its just how I feel.

How they could improve it? Well for one thing they could have made either the sword art online arc longer to where it ends with that arc or they could have made the second half more exciting. I mean yes he is out to save Asuna from a creep but the story is kind of draggy to me. I think they should have it more of a faster pace and i don't dig the fairy look either lol.

how could something be "generic shounen", when it's not being generic shounen, and isn't even in the shounen genre what so ever?

but anyway.... how they could have improved it... they could have not completely rushed the Aincrad arc, they could have included many important story details that were left out, they could have included character's internal monologues.... that right there would fix the vast majority of the issues.

Well the real reason that you guys and girls liked in up to the end of the first arc was because it was a live or die situation. The intensity of that made SAO really good then after he beat the game it went to a romantic part of the anime that it wasn't all about action but more romance and drama type. I didn't mind it at all but they could of improved it a bit more.

the first part was, too. the only difference is that ALO isn't a death game. the only episodes that weren't about the romance between Asuna and Kirito were episodes 1 - 4 and 7.

The fighting is the same or better in ALO, but the life and death situation is not there. Thats what took a lot out of the anime. Still i understand that they cant have a life and death game in alfheim aswell. If Kirito had gotten trapped once again inside a game i would have lost all faith in SAO. Anyways i`d say gun gale online arc(comes after alfheim) has an interesting story line. Look forward to it.

Sword Art Online isn't over yet and we already two topics regarding SAO, one which is the same as yours:
