No odder than listening to Josh Groban sing in Italian, or to Operas written in German, or French songs like "Les Feuilles Mortes" (Autumn Leaves), or Pink Floyd's "The great gig in the sky" (which is mainly vocals without words used purely as a lead instrument). Music is music, no matter what the language, and you like it or you don't as a personal choice. If you cave in to peer pressure and don't listen to something for fear that someone else will think it is "weird", then it's your own loss...

Nope. I have a lot of songs on my phone that are from various anime. Classmates are always confused as to why I have a bunch of Japanese music on my phone but seriously... it is their loss.

I have a whole ton of Japanese songs downloaded onto my computer. I never thought of it as weird.

Lyrics are fun and all, but there are very few songs that I listen to because I like their lyrics. Music is about composition, not words, but the language that lyrics are written in can affect composition: English words have stressed and unstressed syllables, and writing a song with English lyrics will result in a certain 'flow' to account for those stressed syllables, which will in turn affect the rest of the song, since the composer will obviously want to harmonize their instruments well. Japanese is markedly less strict about syllable emphasis, which leaves a bit more melodic freedom. I don't think it's a major issue, but it's there. Regardless, I don't think it's at all strange to listen to music that you can't understand. It's all about what you think sounds good.

This isn't a good site to ask this on, the users responses are kinda predictable. Including mine, I think its awesome listening to songs you don't understand, my favourite part is after a while going and looking at the lyrics. The best example of this i've had is when I was listening to Hatsune Miku's Rolling Girl, sounded like a happy song, went and read the lyrics it's about a suicide. Oh how I laughed.

I love my Japanese music. I listen to it all of the time. Hardly ever listen to any other music.

We don't have to understand the lyrics to enjoy the music! And tbh, I find foreign songs more likable because I get to focus to the beats and stuff.

But I have to say, my friends find it weird that I listen to non-English songs, they'll go asking me what the heck am I listening to and they would much prefer to listen to popular raps and recent songs ;A;

I like very few japanese songs and they're ofc anime themes, I usually feel extremely weird when my friends listen to it too, compared to kpop and/or very old chinese songs haha~

Hell I have a song that's mixed with European, Japanese and German all in one. It's your music though as long as you like it and it's not hurting anyone it's all good.
