Angel Beats is depressing

I'll agree that Angel Beats has plenty of tear jerking moments but as a whole I don't see what's depressing. It's about kids who lived tragic lives that were given a second chance to accept who they are by living out their dreams.

full metal panic fumoffu - its hard to get me to actually laugh out loud but this series had me doing it several times... which is great

the classic favorite Gintama, it was difficult for me for the first couple episodes to try to acclimate to the Gintama universe especially just coming off SAO, but I had a friend who raved about making it to episode 201... so I trekked and what an amazing ride... Gintama has made me a better person and I have laughed numerous times throughout it

School Rumble is another great feel good, cute anime

Kiss X Sis (Anime is almost considered hentai because of the amount of fan service it provides, but has a funny story when you get into it)

Kiss X Sis is actually considered ecchi, if I'm correct- hentai is hardcore sex, and ecchi is more boob shots, panty shots, and near-sex moments.

Otherwise, I like your list! Tamako Market was an uplifting show

I think short shows are the best for mood changers since they have a habit of jam-packing as much funny in to a 3-6 minute time slot that they possibly can.

It is for this purpose I nominate either...

Aiura

or

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-chan

Both of these shows are just pure funny in your pocket. Aiura is current and more moe but it's still really funny, Haruhi-chan is just senseless laughter the whole way through, you'll ask yourself why you haven't seen it if you haven't already.

Gintama is definitely an acquired taste if you spend the time to acquire it, the humor is quirky, and the world that they bring you into is unique. They do alot of parodies of a ton of animes, so the more anime time you have under the belt, the more references your going to pick up on. same with the ton of Japanese pop culture references. The setup is episodic, random, and the anime characters are very much aware they are in an anime and Gintama doesn't take it self very serious, but when they do get serious with the various arcs... Gintama is at its best, and it won't be long before you will be able to see why it has such a mass following.

If you can approach it from an open mind and crank through the first 20-30 episodes, its more than enough time to get hooked in, if it doesnt do it for you by then... then you can drop it legitimately giving it a chance..
