I've been practicing Chen Style Tai Chi and weapons forms (spear, sword and broadsword) for 3 years. Recently began push hands training which is way harder than it looks. The only kick, punch fights I've been in were with my sister back when we were teens. The few times I almost got in a fight were when I was actually protecting someone or myself. Fights never ensued, but I did manage to get the point across that I/we did not want to be bullied or messed with.
Most of the people I practice with are older than I am. They practice to keept heir bodies fit and maintain strength. I would not pick a fight with them. |

Hap Ki Do, started practicing when I was five or six.. Kind of just became part of my every day life. I'm not active anymore since I moved to a place dominated by Muay Thai and Tae Kwon Do and haven't found anything else that has caught my attention. Aikido is too soft for my tastes, although similar. (read: same)
If I'm going to practice Aikido I'd probably do it at a shrine that's near by. ._. If they'd let me. .________________. Stuff like Hap Ki do is a lot more 'practical' in my SUPER EXPERT INTERNET EXPERIENCE. Gun still trumps all in the right/wrong hands though, don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise. |

No.

i studied taekwondo (blackbelt) and yaw-yan... but that doesn't really prepare me for those causing trouble. i prefer running home, getting my gun and threatening to blast their heads off if they mess around with me again. but sometimes i carry a telescopic steel baton whenever i have to go someplace im not familiar with.

Studied Kenpo for several years, and others to a lesser extent. The overall training is great for conditioning and self-awareness (knowing how your body moves and such).
If you're looking for conditioning, rock climbing is also a great approach, and can build on just about any other workout. |

I'm a very light person(currently only 100 pounds) so I never had the luxury to have "Fair" fights with other guys. I haven't practiced any one specific martial art, but I have learned several techniques to incapacitate opponents. I won't go into details on here cause if you do something wrong you'd end up killing the other person.

I did 8 years of Shaolin kempo, mostly. I've also had experience with kendo and iaido, ninjutsu and grappling arts.
I'm a specialized striker, though. I have no talent or interest in grappling but I have trained myself to escape many common holds while giving me openings to strike back. I haven't done any empty-hand training recently. Lately, I've been doing work with my swords. My hand-to-hand is probably very rusty (well, mostly my footwork, I'd wager, since that requires more practice for me than striking with the hands). |
