If they are watching Aqua Teen Hunger force, that's even better than anime. It's better than them thinking you are a pervert who likes to watch girls who look younger than barbie... even if you don't think that way.

I would think that they don't really keep up with anything interwebs wise other than teen heart-throbs, Facebook, Twitter-things like that. I'm sure they have seen it around the sites they go on most and say out loud or in their head, "That's that uhm...anime thing he was talking about, huh?" Then there's the stereotypes and all that jazz. Jeez I hate those...But I would think it's better for them to say they don't know what it is, than to think they know and start to say things they don't understand at all.
And why just girls in your area? Guys know more about it than girls? Huh, mine's the flip-flop part of yours [probably because we're all somewhat more pervy than the bros at our school, but that's their opinion].
I do alot of tests with people's feelings, and I found out that if they look and possibly fall in love with anime and manga on their OWN, they like it more than just someone showing them an episode of their favorite show and hoping that they will like it just as much. It's an unexpected turn of events, ya get me? =3=
Well, just leave what's "normal" be [I NEVER do that] and maybe you'll find some girl who's more of a fan of anime than you are ^-^

I never found a girl that really enjoys anime as I do. Then again nobody I know enjoys anime as I do. But it's alright because anime is worth being an outcast for.

there were way too many otaku chicks at my highschool... none of them seemed to be too interested in some of the less mainstream stuff though.... but bring up full metal alchemist and they'd agree wayy too much, as if to say, "I see you've heard of that series. I happen to enjoy it more than anyone!" Lame. As to what may be causing this lack of chicks being into anime, I would have to conjecture that it has a lot to do with mainstream media and local societal norms combining with peer pressure, and voi-la!, you have people too complacent and even afraid to leave the safety of their familiar cultural worship of celebrities and fame-getting. (fame-getting is a pseudoregistered trademark of Wolven Analytics Ltd. 2012)
