I understand girls don't do this, i mean I don't either. But I'm wondering if you ladies throw out clues? For instance, would you walk around town with a keychain of your favorite anime character? I personally have a lot of anime accessories, NERV stickers on my phone, NERV keychains, etc.. I usually look at girl's phones to try to get a sense of character, but I rarely see them using anything besides Rikkulama/Hello Kitty if it's anywhere close to anime.

I don't speak for the majority of the female population, just myself but I know if I didn't tell you I liked anime, you probably would never find out. I'm just like a regular girl but with an interest in anime. I mean I do own manga and anime dvd's at home but I never go around town with anime accessories nor do I bring it up in conversations with people. But if someone asks me if I watch anime I would happily go off into a long drawn out conversation with them about anime. All people need to do these days is just ask.

Not sure if my sentences are coherent. It is getting pretty late

They are coherent, definitely written well enough to understand. I see, well I hope more girls start to embrace Anime a bit more and show their love for it the same way they would for designer brands, sports teams, or HK even.. I see a lot of Hello Kitty stickers on girls cars, or accessories in general, and then ask them if they watch anime and it's usually "No, I watch pretty little liars though" or some other show along those lines.

Thank you! I will definitely try, maybe clip an anime keychain to my purse or something. I used to be more open about it but society in general is condescending towards people that watch anime sadly :/ I mean when I used to tell my friends they would reply "oh you watch anime?" like it was the lamest thing to have as a hobby.

That would be awesome, maybe we need to make a new thread about people's anime fashion..? Unless there's one already made. Ah! I know how that goes, people used to sterotype me into being an anime nerd in my younger years which I didn't want to be associated with. Kind of grew up and just decided to support what I love and express it. My phone's got stickers of IU/SNSD and anime phone charms on it and I've been made fun of sure, but I still love it the way it is. Anime and nerds in general are on the come up, don't be shy! :D

The women I know who like anime are very cautious of otaku, and will not admit they are into it until they get an idea of whether the guy is a fanservice hound or not. most of them don't care for the guys who are into fanservice and don't even want to associate with them online.

My sister belongs to online discussion groups that are all women, and most of those women won't post anywhere else. They have had bad experiences with the male side of the fandom. Who can blame them? The otaku are always complaining about fujoshi, and how they wish RL females were more like anime girls.

Really, look at a discussion connected to a T&A or harem show. You guys don't think the ladies see that?

I totally agree with the closet fan thing. I mean, I love anime & it's not like I hide the fact, but it honestly never comes up. Perhaps it's just my circle of friends, but it's not exactly a popular subject. Only maybe my best friend knows that I'm into anime (and this other random guy I met once because he showed me pics of his Gundam 00 model he was working on lol) and even then I don't think she quite understands what I mean. I guess the misconception is that anime is only Bleach or Naruto or Gundam or something. She also can't wrap her brain around the reason someone would watch anything in subtitles. But I can't totally blame her though. I used to think some of the same things until I gave it a chance. Now I can't get enough!

I do agree we have over sexualize guy when it comes to Anime and that does turn most women off. Not sure how women in Japan handle this but most women do block otakus because of that. Hence why i decided to make this my new hang out spot. Because i love talking to girls about Anime and Manga without coming off as a stalker/Otaku or a perv. I can say I love Harem Manga and anime but not just the one guy and 10 girls but also the reverse 1 girl and 10 guys. Fan service not against it but not saying is need it every 30 seconds to sell the story.

i totally agree. unfortunately, i don't have any sort of anime thing what-so-ever (accessories, clothes, even dvd's) i'm tellin ya, i'm a complete loner in my house when it comes to anime and it sucks. i was lucky enough (when i was 10 and crazy about Pokemon) to have toys, posters, the games, a few shirts, and watch the show everyday.

I walked into Hot Topic today and they certainly have updated their anime section, there's all these anime t-shirts and hatsune miku plushies scattered around the store. You're right, I'm already nerdy enough as it is being associated with liking anime won't do any more harm. I feel like once I get out of high school I'll have a lot more room to express myself without being judged. Bet your phone can't beat my old one...a HK designed phone with like 3 different HK charms hanging off of it.

Also the sub helps you increase your reading speed . I had notice before and after. i started to read the subs now i can read a novel in 3 days(finish the lord of the ring the trilogy in 9 days and the hobbit in 2 days top). I do agree with you with the people looking at you funny when you say you love Anime or Manga . I was the same deal with video games during the late 80 and 90's until everybody and their mother got into. I just hope is sooner for the Anime & Manga.

YES! Someone that understands what I'm talking about. My best friends aren't exactly into anime anymore and they don't really watch it so we never really talk about it and I basically spend most of my free time with them. True, it is very hard to get into anime but once you've been drawn in you're in it for the long run.

Aw, maybe in time you can collect a bit more. After reading through this thread I've got the nack to go out and buy some stuff now. Definitely getting myself a princess mononoke shirt.

I haven't been to HT in at least 6 years, but now I kind of want to venture to my local mall and check it out. I can say from experience that once you leave high school you will open up a lot more and stop caring about what others think. I was pretty open as it is during high school but not many people knew I spent 12 hours a day on WoW while spending the other time I had on Anime. I never talked about it or showed that I had an interest. It probably can't at the moment, all I have is Evangelion on it and my keychain broke..

This makes perfect sense to me, I understand completely where you ladies are coming from and I even get a little grossed out by some of the guys that fall a little far too in love with some anime characters or what not. I guess I wouldn't want to let it be known that I was into anime had I been born a cute asian girl. Take for instance Vampybitme [I'm sure most people know her as her cosplay is rather 'famous' within our community] but if you simply take a look at her videos and the top comments they are in general all related to one subject and rather perverted. This just backs up what you're saying and gives reasoning why girls don't want to openly show they're into Anime.

Got my wife hooked on Anime early on.

That being said there some stuff we both like and stuff we like differently.

Example, she has trouble with 80-90's style animation and unless it has really good plot, character's to hook her in, if not she can't hold any interest in it.
