I agree with your 100% the funny part is when i see those girls saying " but sub sucks because it make you take your eye out of the story" when it reality it speeds up your eye and reading speed LOL. Oh yeah Vandread was a better anime then the manga and the fan service was very subdue. True Mahoromatic was insane when it came to the fan service another one you can include on the fan service is my beloved High school of the Dead. Speaking of women that hate fan service but love super smutty books.Don't you find it hillarious when you see an exec or a mom reading 50 shades of gray in public? I know i can't stop smirking or laughing .

Yeppers, loved HoTD, too.

Regarding Fifty Shades of Shit (as one female reviewer called it; PM if you want the link to that particular review - it was incredibly hilarious.) I facepalm more than find it funny, to be blunt. I find that particular piece of "work" to be more misogynistic than some of the "worst" offenders in anime, with a main character that is one dimensional, co-dependent, and frankly boring, who falls for an abusive guy...and it seems the author knows less about sex than most teenagers. Then again, it was fanfiction based off the Twilight series, which can quite easily be described as "Porn for Mormons." (I must credit my best friend with that quote, as she was raised Mormon.) That the vampires are just a twisting and retelling of the ideal Mormon lifestyle makes me snicker.

Girls do like anime and manga but they are closet about it. Anime isn't all that socially acceptable yet. If you go to an anime store I am sure there will be one or more girls there. They might also be consider goddess there too. I went to Anime Weekend Atlanta (Convention) this September and saw plenty of attractive girls. I'd rather not go to into detail but they are out there. For people that have problems talking to girls. Some of the girls are cosplayed as their favorite character. What that means is if you know the same show you have something to talk about. Also if you want a girl to get into anime start them with something lighthearted, funny, cute, and tells a good story. I love and have used Angel Beats to bring girls into the "Anime World". You have to be careful with what you show them. Look at what they generally do and base your choice of anime off that. Starting with HoTD isn't a good idea per say. Hopefully this helps.

Too much typing...

Being honest, I don't really like to actively advertise that I'm an anime fan offline because:
1) people tend to either think that it's either all for kids or all wacky hentai, and in most situations I don't want them making assumptions about me based on their misguided view; and 2) most other fans I meet are either uncomfortably intense about it or actually not really into most anime, just Death Note/ Naruto/ Bleach, none of which I can honestly say I'm a huge fan of.

That said, I have a few subtle keychains and things, and I'll talk to someone if they happen to recognise them.

I've been a big fan of anime since the 80s, my first exposure was to Fist of the North Star. Now that I'm on Crunchyroll I'm totally going to do my best to watch everything here! Although that's going to be nearly impossibly to do since there is SO MUCH to enjoy! I'm now hooked on K-Dramas too. I'm just glad I was introduced to Crunchyroll because I'm now able to expand my viewing experience with shows I never would have thought to watch.

However, I do agree with the sentiments of a lot of other posts that it really isn't socially acceptable. As a working professional I can't relate to co-workers. I'm also a huge gamer and I listen to a lot of game music at work because I feel that the compositions are absolutely beautiful (think of Video Games Live). When I tell people where the music is from they can't comprehend that so much goes into video games, or even why companies invest in so much of the "small details" that consists of the entire gaming experience.

But, I have an awesome boyfriend who shares my passion for gaming and anime and that's all that really matters to me .

BTW if you are in the Los Angeles area, check out AM2 Con, I had a great time this past year!

Most of the other girls I know like only mainstream Shoujo and stuff like that. They watch Hetalia, Black Butler, Ouran, Fruits Basket and a couple others occasionally. Then there are a ton of yaoi fangirls... then there's me who can't keep a conversation going with them because they only care about how hot the characters are.... And the guys at my school who like anime are huge pervs and if they watch a normal show are discussing the female characters or underwear shots....

There are no true anime fans openly at my school TT_TT And heaven forbid they read the MANGA for anything....
Here's a list of anime/manga I watch/read that none of my friends have heard of/will ever watch/read:

I'm a female and I've been an anime watcher / manga reader since age 11-12. Growing up I only had a handful of friends who had the same hobby, mostly guys. Now, I'm a little busy so don't keep up with anime as much. Also I'm in university now, and I've met a lot of anime lovers (not obsessed, but knowledgeable).

Same with my area. I know some girls though who like anime and I've gotten friends who are girls into anime with romance shiet, I mean who wouldn't love that stuff.
But otherwise guys at my school think anime is "uncool."
I bet if they actually look into it they'd like some kind of type. I have only 2 guy friends who think anime is okay/cool, otherwise i'm the only guy I know who likes it.

Why doesn't this logic seem to apply to my penis? I just end up in jail every time...I don't even understand.

Always like a gentleman.

Um....perhaps more romantic quotes from movies. Idk, jeez!! Frick!!!
You're penis can't even compare to anime that's why, dearie. <3
