I personally prefer the anime, which was how I was introduced to Spice and Wolf. However, as already mentioned, there are only two seasons which cover the first few books, of which there are in fact 17, and it seems very unlikely there will ever be more anime seasons after these. So, if like me, you want to find out how the story continues to unfold and end, one will have to read the books. The official English translations of the light novel seem on pace to come out one volume every four months, with volume 7 just released this month. Hopefully, they'll make it all the way to 17, and not cease publishing or go bankrupt before that.

I've watched the Anime and enjoyed it very much. I'm collecting the light novels. From what I understand, book 3 was skipped over for some reason, so of course I plan to read the novel to see why it was skipped in the Anime. I would like to wait until ALL the novels are brought over (hopefully) before I read them. I also would like to see more of it animated because the way season 2 kinda just STOPS is sort of annoying, but I am glad I watched it. I'm skipping the manga, but that's just a personal preference.

I've watched the anime and read parts of the light novel. I skipped over the manga though. I own both seasons on DVD/Blu-Ray and I'm quite happy with it.

Spice and Wolf is, by far, the number one series that I am hoping and praying gets continued. Holo is my 2nd favorite female lead in any anime that I have seen (Kyou is 1, Holo is 2, Mitsuki is 3). The chemistry between Lawrence and Holo is an absolute joy to watch. I find myself completely captivated by the show despite some obvious shortcomings. I'm also not a big fan of dubs BUT the dub for Spice and Wolf is actually quite good. With that said, I have every single one of the light novels that have been published in English. The light novels, as you can expect, have more information thus filling out the story better than what an anime can accomplish. With that said, if you haven't seen the anime yet I highly recommend it. Just try to restrain your disappointment at the conclusion of the second season. At least the story continues if only in a different format

I've seen some anime that have quite extensive stories in them, enough to fill their own books. About Spice & Wolf, I doubt that it will get any more seasons, but like you said at least the story continues in a different format (two of them, to be precise). We should be grateful it even got an anime adaptation.
