While an interesting idea - the main problem is that there have been hundreds of studies on brain activity during sleep, where countless individuals have had their brain activity monitored throughout sleep.

We die every time we sneeze, that's why people say "God bless you" - hoping God starts your heart again and doesn't leave you dead. Last time I sneezed I was still the same person and personality that I was before I sneezed last time.

Your brain experiences increased activity during certain stages of the sleep cycle. Activity is not reduced. As for being "you", as long as your brain anatomy remains the same, so will you.

Some people can wake up and feel like a totally different person with a different personality, so I see why you think like you do. But you also know that to die your heart have to stop pumping blood through your body. (:

It's improbable, but just listen. When we go to sleep our brain activity is reduced a great deal. If for even a millisecond, our brain activity completely ceased and rebooted itself. The old us would very possibly die, leaving a new "us" in the morning, with all the memories of the previous.

We think we've lived a good amount of time, when possibly, every night, you die and a new version of you awakes oblivious to the other you that died.

What do you think? If you completely reboot your brain, will you still be "you"?

Um... that's why the brain doesn't ever stop its activity even if a person is in a coma, not even for a millisecond or nanosecond... so this is out of the question.

And yes, if a brain has stopped its activity then all electrical signals are lost meaning memories will be wiped, a person will not be the same person (considering that person is able to come back to life). Currently there is no "elixir of life" that can bring brain dead people back to life.

Well we die everyday. Every day that we live we actually decrease our lifetime here on Earth in our physical bodies. So yeah we do die every night and every day every time you breathe too.

I think the real question is: Do we ever really live?

a computer is the same after a reboot, it still has its files, programs & information stored, just think of your brain as a program like a computer that just connects bits and pieces together to get the bigger picture.

a reboot isn't death, it's just resetting.. starting up again.
