All the perplexities, confusion and distress in America arise, not from defects in their Constitution or Confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, so much as from the downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit and circulation.
-John Adams

Americans are not quiet as stupid as most of you assume,
however some of our loudest mouths and embasements sure are.

Most people over here just don't know how good they have it

Here in the UK, general opinion on things tends to be highly varied based on area, social class and age, so I can hardly speak for everyone. However, from what I've observed, the popular stereotypes about Americans around here are that they're trigger happy, overly nationalistic, and not necessarily stupid, but kinda ignorant towards the rest of the world. For the most part, these are presented as friendly jabs, but some, especially about the trigger happiness, are taken far more seriously.

There is some concern about Americanisation, but over here it's far less of a big thing than in other places simply because our culture and the USA's have been similar for a long time for obvious reasons.

I live in America and I am sad to say that most of those sterotypes are true but mostly in the southern parts of America mostly Texas where I live and not so much in the northern area. In Texas nearly everyone has their own gun safe and/or armory though it is usually the Red Necks who tend to be trigger happy and like to blow stuff up ( honestly I can't say I don't like to blow stuff up myself ). We all have a deep respect for our country and for what it was founded upon and alot of people down here would shoot our president on site for ignoring our constitution and our civil rights, frankly it's dangerous for any political person that isn't a republican to come down here. As for the ignorance part... I'll just say it's true too alot of people don't even acknowledge any other country but our own, unless you are Mexico alot of us don't really give a damn about Canada.

What part of Texas do you live in ?!?

Anyways, does anyone find it ironic that some people in other countries are ignorantly stereotyping Americans as ignorant? That's the point of the thread, but it's still hilarious.

I also thought about that Toasteer....

Maybe they was simply stating their opinions thru the
obvious use of sarcasm, which was completely lost on us...

Damn, we really are stupid

A few miles away from Houston in the country side full of trigger happy Rednecks. I assume you live in the cities otherwise you would know everything I said was true.

Edit: Maybe not so much of the ignorance part that's mostly the Rednecks too. But you can't tell me that you never have forgotten Canada existed I mean come on I know I have they never do ANYTHING intresting.

Mostly everyone thinks we're burger loving capitalist fatasses. I don't agree that our youth are all idiots but a lot of them are. And our adults are somewhat patriotic but, hell... nationalism is nationalism. I don't see anything wrong with loving the country you're born in. Yes, we have it nice and yes we do think blindly of some things. In reality though we've done a lot of things good and bad. Actually I hate that people think so lowly of Americans; every country has its idiots and every country has its problems.

In America, anybody can be president. That's one of the risks you take. I think that sums it up quite nicely.

I'm from central america, i was raised in the U.S from what I've learned so far, no american should worry about what any other country thinks the U.S is still a very young country and we are barely developing, yet american's have accomplished so much, in such a short period of time, it's truly is an honor to live in this country, though because of the way we are going our education seems to be lacking, i blame this on the way our focus and the lack of cooperation we are having, "survival of the fittest" has gone to our heads.

if you hate American's so much please do consider what as a nation we have done for you, indirectly or directly.

Living in the United States isn't so bad. But, I do live in NY which has a giant mix of different cultures, so no one really judges each other unless it's a joke. I feel as Americans are too patriotic though, hell I hate this country. (I'm not American)

Ignorance is a universal problem, it's just a matter of what specific people are ignorant of.

The other thing I personally find ironic about stereotypes is that people say "That stereotype isn't true!" or "Not everyone is the same!", but the truth is, they probably have stereotypes about other groups that they believe on some level.

I think stereotypes are inevitable, simply because that's how humans work. All we can do to make things better is try to educate others about what's wrong about stereotypes they hold, and educate ourselves about our own.

Yeah, lets all hate each other because there isn't enough hate to go around already. I'm an American, not trigger happy. I do own two guns though. Each is well over 100 years old and in no condition to be fired. They've been passed down from one family member to another. I don't consider myself to be a a stuck up "ummmm" idiot either. I believe in gun control in the sense that I believe that the guy hiding in his doomsday bunker telling you that the reptile people are beaming thoughts through your TV should have his firearms removed from him before he hurts somebody.

It's really popular for people of other nations to hit the internet, see what problems are currently going on in the U.S. (shootings for example) and then group us all in the same lump based on what the news article said. "Man, Americans are all sick mothers. They don't care how many people get shot". It gets old.

I see people think americans are all trigger happy it could be true to some, dont other countries have gangs or violence also, some americans would not pick up a gun to save there own lifes. Why do americans have to be dumb or ignorant or over patriotic because we love are countrie. Do you guys love your countrie if you do your over patriotic lol I live in wisconsin and we are none of the stereotypes all though there is crazy ice swimming people here. I did not thik brits or scots thought bad of us americans we almost the same allot of our four fathers were from england and ireland even scotland. Am almost 50% irish. I can see why some countries hate us but not people in england we would never bomb any place with brits in it there our allies. I bet most countries would stab us in the back if they didn't either need us or had the military power to destroy us with out a nuke war. the only countries who can up to us is the uk, japan, and russia but there mostly allies and to many life would be lost. america is hated tell were needed
