oh I just let them have it:

one notorious saying, I told someone: Hey, why don't you pull your head out of your ass and clean the shit out of your ears, maybe you'll actually hear something important. like, I don't give a rat's ass where you went to school, what you majored in, how many degrees you have...I am happy and you are not, why should I give a fuck about the rest?!

another trick I learned from my younger brother: stare at thier forehead and just blink, until they're about to get to their point and ask a random question to make them lose their train of thought, then to be an asshole walk away, before they can answer.

I let them crack on with whatever schpeel they are talking about whether I understand it or not. I usually try to ignore them while getting on with something else if I can.....that or I yawn.

I would rather make people laugh than try and be full of my own self importance, which is why at work I make random jokes with my colleague (we sit at one side of the office snickering away to ourselves).

What these people want is for you to be impressed. Do not indicate with word or deed that you are. A slightly sleepy expressions, even a blank face, does wonders.

I particularly dislike people who brag about WHO they know (one guy was talking about some musicians as if he had "produced" them himself, another lady was trying to impress me with the fact that she had an African American friend). OK, great. I wonder how happy your friends would be to know that you think of them as a collector's item?

The other thing I hear a lot is people who are into media arts trying to look all cool about it (aka, brag). I've been around these people enough to learn that they spend more time talking about the thing they are associated with, then actually working at it. Which is one of the reasons I decided not to study that kind of stuff in class settings; most of my fellow students were just lazy bums.

I usually brush them off and walk away or get into a debate about something and make them seem illiterate.
Reverse Psychology, gotta love it.

I usually treat them to a coffee at a catering truck location. Then "we" stand a few paces away chatting. On cue a comfort lady will appear, casually walk by, walk away a short distance, turn 180 degrees, then greet the intended victim from behind by reaching in between his legs and grabbing his Johnson unannounced.

I have yet to see any guy hang onto their cup of coffee after that bit of provocation. And the topic of conversation usually changes too.

intellectuals that make conversation i think they are interesting depending on the topic, however if they come as self-important and they make it obvious that they think they are better then everyone thats where i have a problem, we are equals, no one is better then anyone. humans are humans and everyone is an individual. just because they may be smart doesnt rank you any higher then the rest of society.

If they're not flaunting their knowledge I try to absorb their knowledge about the topics I don't know about along with their opinions. Because the more I build up the less I have to say.

The same way you would deal with anti-intellectuals who act that way.

Some people just don't understand the nature of debate. As long as you both keep it civilized, why does it matter that the opposition brings up some good points? Learn and accept and adjust your worldview accordingly.

If they act condescendingly and are clearly trying to belittle you, that's a different matter entirely.

Excuse me, but what is a "comfort lady"?
