I need an assistant, someone to type, would be faster if I didn't have to put the book down and type... need to do a skype chat or something LOL. A live reading... hmm.

Have you ever thought of trying voice dictation?

If you have Windows Vista or later, it is built-in:

I don't know if it is me or my microphones but Windows dictation today in English or Japanese and IBM VoiceType back in the day of OS/2 never worked for me. They generate gibberish, some funny stories especially when I start laughing at the gibberish but nothing useful comes of it. It is much faster for me to type.

Or if I had an automatic page turner, that would work too... then I could touch type and read but light novels won't even stay open unless you hold them open though I'm sure there are at least low-tech book holders; I used to have one many years ago that attached to a CRT monitor but I don't think they make such things for laptops...

From my admittedly limited experience with voice dictation software, generally the software needs time to get used to your speech patterns. After it has, it's as quick and effective as speaking, in theory at least. That said, it can take quite a while, it just depends how much time you have to converse with yourself and read back your gibberish before it starts making sense.

I suppose you could always go old tech and simply record yourself reading the material, and then play it back and type in from your own dictation. I know some free media players like VLC can slow down playback if you talk faster than you can type.

I have tried training but... to no good effect. Thanks though!

That's not a bad idea... might try that. I can type very quickly, Mrs. Fothergill my grade 9 typing teacher would be proud. Wouldn't have the same live effect as someone else doing it. I'd have to read until I got tired of that and then type for a while... will see. Thanks.

There's also the commercial software, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, which seems to work well for a lot of users. Maybe that might work better than the Windows freeware for you.

Intuitively I'd want to say that nothing's as good as typing things down, but that's just me, and I'm not a pro at this. I mean, if it were me, I think I'd say things one way, think about it... think better of it, then start some serious hand editing. Feel free to tell me people use it super effectively if they actually do, though. It would honestly be a little enlightening to know.

I hate the whole put-down-the-book thing too, but if I had a digital version, I don't think things would be as bad. The alternative, ripping out the pages and spreading them on my desk, is just... no. NOoooooOOooo.

Yes, I shall probably just read, put it down and type as usual. The fixups needed make it slower. It is especially confusing with Japanese people and place names interspersed with English...

And the cover is indeed what was shown before and it is now listed... cover spoiler, look who it is...

Im thinking:

That is always the ending I hope for as well. Used to be the ending we always got in the '70s and '80s, even '90s but less likely now.

They're here! Oh man, which to read first... I shall perhaps get even less sleep than usual this week...

Got Strike the Blood 10 and Noragami 10 as well in the box but those can wait I think!

I love both series and I'm excited just seeing them in the pic. I wish I could read more Kanji... enjoy them hpulley!
