I think we should create a group and create a petition that we can send to the animators and creator of The Pet Girl Of Sakurasou. We can put down the name of everyone who wants a second season to show that there is support for the show. I wouldn't worry about not getting an insane amount if signatures. Just having the willpower to follow through on such a petition should show that there is a loyal following for the show and that a second season could be profitable for them.

If I'm not mistaken.. the last episode showed a new member entering the dorms. I was positive that foreshadowed an upcoming second season. I hope I'm right!!

Well, the LN was/is(?) ongoing.

They ended it like that in hopes of a second season because they still have so much source material they could adapt.

I want a second season real bad, but nothing is certain unless they put up an announcement at the end of the series or something similar.

The LN has ended. Volume 10.5 was the last side story volume, 10 ended the main series a while ago. It's all over! Wahhhh.....

And so is the anime. Chance of second season now: zero. 0%

The author has a new novel series out now. I finally picked up a copy in Japan this past week. It is so good! I can't wait for the anime of "Adolescent hooligans should not dream of Bunny Girl Sempai!" I'm sure it will happen but with just one novel out so far we will have to wait 2 year or so. Sigh...

Aww, that's too bad. Crushed hopes are crushed.

That title though, haha, that'll be on my must watch list when it comes around.

Isn't it better to adapt the completed series...?!
Why wouldn't there be no chance at a second season...

Why wouldn't there be no chance at a second season...
No. You need to understand the basic premise for creating an anime adaptation of a source material, in this case the novel series for Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou). And that is to sell the books. You don't need to adapt all the books to sell the books. You won't sell many more books with a second season of the anime anyways; most people who didn't know about the books heard about them when the first season aired but now they know.

So unless the anime sells really well, well enough to pay for itself in a second season... unless it does that, there is no reason to make another season of anime. Sakurasou's anime did not sell very well. While not terribly, an average of 2834 discs over the 8 volumes really isn't great so there is no point in making a season 2 that won't do any more to advertise the novels and will cost more money than it will make.

For you and for me it is a great idea to make a second season, to completely adapt the work. But from a business sense, it is a bad idea.

From a creative sense, Kamoshida Hajime would rather that you read his books anyway. He is a writer. Besides, he makes more money from his books than he makes from the anime.

So is the chance really 0? No but effectively it is. The publisher has many other novel series to promote. The author has a new novel series to promote which is SUPER FRACKING AWESOME by the way! I can't wait for the Bunny Girl Sempai anime!!! Already so good in just the first book! But the bottom line is, they would rather spend their time and money promoting new works rather than an old novel series which is finished publishing (the manga adaptation continues but for how long, who knows...).

Really...?
I'm under the impression that the whole purpose of anime is to earn money...
...If a series is popular , it is reason enough to have it being adapted... isn't it?

When someone replies to your post you need to actually read the reply as I think I answered it for you. It is indeed about making money. And Sakurasou the anime didn't make very much money. But that's OK because it was really made for the books.

Popularity does NOT equal money making ability. Sakurasou, popular or not, did not make much money as an anime.

Some of the NO SEQUELs up there are just because of timing. I suspect we'll get another TO LOVE RU sequel. Just no yet.

Teekyuu is a 2 minute short so it didn't have to sell many copies to get a sequel, especially since it was just meant to advertise the manga.

The sales numbers approximately represent how much money they made on disc sales. You will see that the higher the sales, the greater the chances of a sequel being made. Sakurasou is right on the cusp. And since sequels generally (not always, but usually) make 25-50% LESS than the original, if Sakurasou season one barely broke even then season 2 will lose money.

There are original anime as well that are NOT made primarily to advertise the source work. Girls Und Panzer is one of those. For it to get a sequel it had to sell really well, and it did. Total surprise hit of the season.
