Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade yanked my heartstrings pretty hard at the end.

The only two other examples in media are respectively from a certain chapter of the manga Bitter Virgin, and the end of Steven Erikson's book Deadhouse Gates. By now I've read both three times or so and they still hit me just as hard.

The funeral in Naruto for the Third Hokage was also sad, but not as emotionally devastating as the above.

I've also watched Grave of the Fireflies but you knew what you were in for with that one so you were prepared for it.

Oh, wait, I'd forgotten about the funeral scene in the first cour of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

...

I'm about to do a marathon of this with my mates, none of whom have seen it before. I'm gonna be utterly defenceless...

Ah, I'll just time the Domino's pizza arriving at the door right

There are only 3 things that have made me cry after I hit puberty :

1. The end of Saving Private Ryan

2. Clannad After Story

3. Gurren Lagann

Clannad and Gurren Lagann really got you invested in those characters.

Cried to Sword Art Online due to how horrible it was.

Other anime I cried to was Clannad After Story, Angel Beats and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

I am curious what was so horrible about SAO , you can put it in a spoiler to not ruin it for other people. I didn't notice anything all that tragic about the anime.

Now, while this may sound odd or just because it's a bit too mainstream, but Naruto when Rock Lee had his arm and leg crushed with Guy hugging him and telling him he is a splendid ninja. Only honest time I cried, because all that effort got him the praise, and he wasn't even conscious for it.

Hey Everyone!!

So I'm not as much of a crier so when I saw this forum, I was intrigued.

I definitely cried at the ending of Angel Beats & some episodes of Clannad series. OMG! How can you not! I tried so hard not to!

Hmm.. wat else.. oh & then there was Cowboy Bebop , I was sad but not crying.

Hotarubi no Mori e (The Light Of A Firefly Forest), I was about to cry at the end but didn't. Do you ever have this heaviness feeling before your about to cry? That's how I felt w/ this movie but I didn't cry.

Oh! Who can forget the Natsume Yūjin-chō series, one of my favourite anime and there are several sweet & tear jerking episodes. The one that is most memorable to me is ep. 9 from the Zoku Natsume Yūjin-chō series: "The Man Amidst the Rows Of Cherry Trees" or "Sakura Namiki no Kare". Highly recommend this anime to anyone!

Thank you for posting this question!
