I love it here. I can't bear to be outside of Montreal for too long.

Speaking from my own experiences with exchange students and as a tourist in other countries, Canadians are perceived as peaceful, soft-spoken and polite. I do believe we're a fairly balanced people.

Oh, and how could I forget the official French Canada video.

I'd never seen that.

South Park still has some decent showings every now and again.

I've never forgiven them for 'Blame Canada' besides I don't own cable. CR and Netflix give me more to watch than I have time for.

If you're Francophone you should chime on on some of the history and pop culture posts. I'm sure all I've done is show one half of the 'twin solitudes' especially for literature.

I haven't been subbed to Cable TV for years now myself, but I still can't help but take a look at what shit those clowns Trey and Matt are stirring up with their show online.

I'll be frank with regards to the francophone "culture": I'm not a big fan of it. It just seems to stagnate and refuse to adapt n order to cater to its newer generations, which is a shame seeing as we're just slowly being Americanized.

In any case, I'm a gym rat obsessed with my own pursuits and probably too detached from society to comment objectively. Take my words with a grain of salt.

But surely you know Quebec pop stars beyond my own uh.. Celine Dion and Rene Simard?

Last time I was in Montreal was last year sometime to watch the Habs stomp on the Penguins. Good times. Nice City. BIG church.

seriously My sister is a Quebeccer through and through she even has a French accent half the time she speaks English, it's cute. She still takes care to renew her passport whenever the PQ get's a majority government though.

For something released by the Government.. not bad.. not bad.

The fast-forward Northern Lights were trippy and you don't have to be in the Yukon to see those. (regular view where I grew up)

I've ridden in a Beaver (aircraft) during my days working for gold exploration companies... and I've seen a lot of the scenery that they show. (Helps that I've driven to both coasts from central Canada)

yes, released by the Government... but all the footage was taken by real Canadians... that's what counts!

It's cool that you've seen so much of the country! One of my dreams is to travel throughout Canada and see as much of it as I can... It's such a huge place! So much to discover!

Have to thank my parents for the two road trips back in the 70's took me out of grade school for an extra couple of months. worth every bit of extra homework.

Thanks to the Sea Cadets, and the Militia I've seen the more of the west coast and Alberta/Saskatchewan since. (Department of National Defence assigns reservists from my hometown DEEP in the Canadian Shield to 'Prairie Region' .. but hey so does the post office. all our mail leaves the province to get sorted in Winnipeg, Manitoba before it comes back to us in Ontario)

in responce to the part I made bold:

Why?
We have what I think (with my deep roots here and all) is a great country. But there are other countries that have traits I admire. Including yours. what's so great about US that you'd renounce your birth citizenship to be come one of us.

and mean that last bit. We may not always live up to it. but Canada is a nation that celebrates a CIVIC not an ETHNIC nationality. you take that oath and you will BE one of us.

I'm not saying that I necessarily dislike the US. I just haven't found anything I'm particularly fond of yet...But I guess it could be that way anywhere. Canada just seems so peaceful. Everything I've ever seen or heard about Canada has made it out to be this nice, quiet country that minds its own business and finds tranquility in solitude. Or something like that.

On the other hand, the US is like a puppy with ADHD. We can't sit still for two seconds without sticking our nose in someone else's crap. It's like we have to be involved in EVERYTHING that happens throughout the world. Seriously, who gives a damn what's happening in other countries, as long as we maintain our own stability and security. Of course, it's a little late for that now. And then we want to point fingers at each other? We want to blame ourselves but we never want to accept the blame. It's an endless cycle. This is a nation of greed and gluttony. Everyone wants power but no one can have it. And...now I'm rambling.

But, yeah, how's Canada? It has to be better than this, right? Based on South Park's portrayal, I'd say you guys are pretty interesting.

I believe Canadians are the leading producers of Maple Syrup.

99% of their economy is built on Maple Syrup and waffles.
Which explains the Maple leaf on the Canadian National Flag.
They also use frozen syrup as currency. (It might be a rumor though)

They have a very good national hockey team.

I heard they host the best snowball fights.

Na, Canada, I'm just playing, I love you all.

Good Hockey Team?

We OWN hockey.

Hockey teams that don't come home with gold in international competitions get maple syruped and feathered and run out of the country on a rail.

I think the US sometimes picks them up after that. maybe the Russians. :p

(oh and I have bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.)
