People here keeps referring to this as a game. It really is more like a book than a game. It does provide choice sometimes but you usually just read it. Calling it a game is like calling the Goosebumps Choose Your Own Adventure books games.

I wouldn't call it a book though.

Katawa Shoujo ranks as number 2 on my favorite VNs list, below Little Busters! and above Grisaia no Kajitsu, and was the first romantic VN I ever played. I wish there were more english-made VNs: the fact that the language we play KS in is its original language is nothing to sneeze at. The writers knew what they were doing, and there are lots of subtleties in the game that you just don't often see in translated pieces, since they're difficult to carry over.

As for routes, my preference is as follows: Rin > Emi > Hanako > Lilly > Shizune. Rin and Emi both blew the other routes out of the water in my opinion. Both are beautifully done, and I feel like these two are the most three-dimensional of the heroines, though that could just be personal bias.

I've tried to get my friends to play this game, but many of them just look at the premise and laugh or facepalm, and won't believe me when I say that it's legitimately touching and not just niche porn with some story elements.

I finished this a couple of days ago and it was fucking good.

I NEVER play/read visual novels, EVER! I didn't even know it was a visual novel until I started playing it. To tell you the truth, I didn't even really mean to download it, I kind of just came across it and just decided to go for it. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. But, I'm very glad that I downloaded it.

The game is surprisingly deep and intense. I've only gone through Emi's arc and that was unbelievable. I love Emi's arc, it was so good. I'm going to try to go for Lily's next.

But I recommend this to any person that enjoys anime or manga. Like I said, I don't read/play visual novels so this very appealing to newcomers.

I have the same issue. Everyone just thinks they won't like it and it's just softcore porn. I guess I can't blame my friends because I probably would have said the same thing if one of my friends was trying to get me to play it.

It's very hard to try to get someone to play something like this lol. It's really one of those things you won't understand unless you sit down and play it.

I couldn't take more than Lily, I cannot watch sex scenes or see romance with no arms, no legs and a burned face.

Really? I thought Emi was a lot cuter because of the no legs, but maybe that's just me.
