Lol I'm not sure which one is the correct way to write it but I mostly use the gray with the "a"

Wikipedia has almost every answer know-a-days:
Grey is the British, Canadian, Australian, Irish, New Zealand and South African spelling, although gray remained in common usage in the UK until the second half of the 20th century. Gray is the preferred American spelling, although grey is an accepted variant. Gray became the preferred spelling in American English around 1825.
-I suppose since I grew up in the states Gray is my choice.

it more put gray as in color while grey is more of name of a person but mostly go with gray on most times.

I'm from Britain so I spell it as grey, although as a child I used to get mixed up between the two all the time

I believe both are correct, it's just that Americans usually write it 'gray'

British English vs American English. You'll find the same thing with words like realise/realize, colour/color.

Gray is mostly refered to by color or mood. While Grey is usually describing an animal or object that is not human.

I used to spell it as grey, but now I spell it as gray.
At one point I decided to Americanize all of my spellings (I do live in America, after all), so theatre became theater as well...

i used to spell it grey but since somebody told me it's wrong then i started using gray
