Gray, but....ok so I have this problem at work.

I work with clients in both the US and in countries where British spellings seem to be more prevalent, you guys have no idea how much this damn question causes me a headache when filling out paper work .

Some people say grey is the way British people spell it; like how color is spelled colour.
That may be true but I think grey and gray can be separate colors in slight variations in shades of hue.
I think I read that grey is the lighter tone in comparison to gray.
Don't remember the source though.
