Modern medicine was developed slowly, painfully, and with many mistakes and a lot of carnage. We are still learning from our mistakes, but those lessons are paid for by the health and lives of people. The development of modern medicine can be compared to evolution by natural selection - the strategy that works gets to live. Some proven highly successful strategies: 1) washing your hands with soap and water 2) vaccines (especially childhood vaccines) 3) antibiotics (properly used) 4) access to contraception and reproductive care for women
