The usual sources are listing it is a series, but given that it is based on a short story, I'm not completely convinced. I've come across some sites indicating it could be a movie. While I expect that Countdown wouldn't list it as a series without good reason, the site is reliable but not infallible.

Another Summer series is confirmed: Kingdom 2

At least Funimation would have that to stream this Summer(along with any 2 cours show they pick up in April and likely Sailor Moon).

EDIT: Countdown lists it under Spring and says that it is likely early June. The 1st season had a similar primiere timing and was consider a Summer series.

Also Countdown and FansubDB have a premiere time and date for RDG: Red Data Girl which premieres on Niconico on March 16th at 11:30 PM JST. This could be like Date A Live where it streams on NicoNico weekly before a TV premiere in April or this could be a Pre-air.

FansubDB also has a TV Tokyo series called Robo Car Poli .

Countdown has the English title while FansubDB has the kanji(?) for a NHK series called Asian Resident Kousaku Shima that airs monthly. It premiers on May 11th at midnight JST

Did you type the wrong month? January ends in a week. At this point the second series hasn't even been scheduled for a specific season.

Update to initial message (Friday, January 25, 2013 @ 5:40 AM CST):

Updated reduced size image of NihonOmaru chart by Norza and link to full size image to version 0.3a (dated January 25, 2013).
Reorganized series list to match chart.
Added icon designating known or reported short form anime
