3. I've always liked Sambomaster's Seishun Kyousoukyoku (spelling?), the 5th intro from Naruto. Good instruments and vocals, even though that guy has horrible teeth. Then again, so did Freddy Mercury.

2. Yui - Again; FMA: Brotherhood intro 1, which imo they should have kept for the entire series.

1. Kokia - Chouwa Oto from Origin: Spirits of the Past. Especially the live version, damn that girl can sing.

1. Highschool of the Dead - song made for the anime by Kishida Kyoudan and the Akeboshi Rockets.

3. Blast of Tempest - Spirit Inspiration

Are we talking the song itself or the opening as a whole? I'm going to assume the latter,so I'm going to pick songs that also had awesome animation, storytelling and/or mood to go with them. I could name way more but I'll try to limit myself to 3. I'm only going to choose one from self imposed "groups" of related openings.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (opening 1) (The opening for the second season was also awesome, as was the opening for Umineko no Naku Koro ni, but ultimately I think this one is the best in the series and its one of the most sinister and unsettling openings that there are in my opinion.)

Durarara - Uragiri no Yuuyake (opening 1) (The trio of this the second Durarara opening and Baccano's opening could have easily been my top 3 without the restrictions I placed on myself, but this opening is by far my favorite opening of the three. In all the openings the way they work the recap into an instrumental portion of the song is badass.)

Angel Beats - My Soul Your Beats (This opening is very emotionally pulling both in music and animation.)

I could name a bunch more but these are the three I could narrow it down to from a quick think through.

Tsurezure Monochrome by Fujifabric: Tsuritama OP - It's so catchy and reminds me of summer! :D

Alones by Aqua Timez - Catchy again and brings back memories!

Asura Cryin by Spiral - For some reason, it just struck me when I first heard it :3

Also notable for me is Closer from Naruto Shippuden; it was my original favourite before I had watched any other anime series :D

I think for unique openings I like the comedy shows and Ill say why. Teekyu the whole thing is insane but the opening sets it up.OniAi just because it goes like ten minutes without the opening song.And the various openings for Hayate the Combat Butler little comedy skits.They just stick in my mind and my preference.

My favourite openings of 2012 has to be the kuroko's basketball openings
Also sket dance opening 5 reboot by everset that was a great opening, but I have to say wonderland by FLiP was also up there.

Some of my all time favourites though like gintama' OP 1 and bleach OP 13, also fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood OP 2 and OP 4 were really great songs, still love them. Also most songs by LM.C are some of my favourites too, but there are too many to choose from, just thought I'd share some of my favourites though lol
