Honestly. I can only eat bacon on a sandwich or on pizza. Otherwise the saltiness is just too much.

IMHO, I think a big part of it is that many people actually like the flavor of greasy foods like bacon, conditioning, and there is also the smell of the meat being cooked.

What is not to like about bacon? Try eating it with different types of foods. What I suggest is eat it with something sweet...that's what I do. It sounds nasty but it's actually delicious. And bacon fat/grease can add a whole layer of flavor into anything. Everything tastes better with bacon.
And Epic meal time made it super popular (though actual foodies were saying it way before that).

I love bacon, even though it is unhealthy, although I do tend to cut most of the fat off.
Plus it's nice in a salad.

I love bacon, but eat it sparingly. Mostly because it's not healthy for you, plus it's a pain to cook with all the tiny grease drops everywhere especially in the morning.
With that said, being a person with more of a salt tooth than a sweet tooth myself, bacon is awesome. Perfect dichotomy of juicy soft, tender meaty insides and crispy, fatty exterior. Salty, smoky, savory goodness.
