It's nothing special. It's not healthy for you and it's truly salty. I heard turkey bacon is 'healthier' than pork bacon though.

I eat turkey "bacon" regulary. It kinda tastes the same (smoky, salty), but it's a bit dry, & lacks that porky, juicy, grease squirting in your mouth goodness. I eat the real stuff maybe about once a year, if at all.

I'm not a fan of processed meat (which includes bacon). I don't eat any of it. Too high in salt and other carcinogens. My parents were farmers so I had bacon when I was child, but haven't had any processed meat since my late 20s.

- Processed Meat Linked to Premature Death
- http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/03/130306220950.htm

In a huge study of half a million men and women, research in Biomed Central's open access journal BMC Medicine demonstrates an association between processed meat and cardiovascular disease and cancer.

- A Sausage a Day Is Too Many, Research Suggests
- http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/03/130307124804.htm

Anyone who eats over 40 grams a day of sausage products or other kinds of processed meat is asking for trouble: the risk of mortality increases by 18 percent for every 50 grams of processed meat per day. This is the result of a study conducted with around 450,000 participants by the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Zurich in collaboration with research colleagues from all over Europe.

- Red Meat Consumption Linked to Increased Risk of Total, Cardiovascular, and Cancer Mortality
- http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/03/120312162746.htm

A new study from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) researchers has found that red meat consumption is associated with an increased risk of total, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality. The results also showed that substituting other healthy protein sources, such as fish, poultry, nuts, and legumes, was associated with a lower risk of mortality.

Not sure how but my mom makes my bacon so it is not so salty. A few years ago I stopped eating salt, so a little is too much now.
Good ole' mom to the rescue.
