Fun and interesting! And sadly accurate that war usually comes down to profit, whether that of religious, governmental, or private entities.

giraffeswillrule wrote: I don't see why it keeps being compared to Spice and Wolf. Besides having the same director and a similar setting, they aren't really all that alike. I'm not getting any Spice and Wolf vibes from it yet. The comedy in this show is not as "smart" and subtle as in SaW, and it is a lot more sexed up than SaW. I still enjoyed it, though. Probably my favorite new anime this season. I really like the Demon King. I love how her horns were a headband! I think it's the Economics, and some the Art, Character designs. also I expect that people are anticipating an anime that, like spice and wolf, was less about fighting and more about the art of the deal. But I agree with you. The main characters are too different the world too detached from that of spice and wolf for me to see a strong connection either. and the music is radically different. |

The main difference between Maoyu and S&W is characters. This series has just begun so it'll take time to see, but the character depth in S&W was second to none. You cared first about Lawrence and Horo and second about the world they lived in. The characters feel a bit generic on the start and I'd like to have seen more people introduced such as the hero's party.
Also, I was kind of disappointed when she took off her horns. I was hoping they were real. |

The new SAO? Episode 1 Anyway, the first episode was cute. But where the hell are they going? Thought they'd just get married and end the war. |

Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful?

Its not that easy to end a war thats been going on for centuries and is essentially a money-pit for a government so that's basically where the series is going. At least if they follow the same basic premise as the manga. |

That was the premise of the first episode to spend half an hour to explain why the Hero of the humans that the war is NOT going to stop because you cut off the head of the other side. They've been at war for so long that war is a way of life and the economics of the world on both sides made war profitable and would not be in their best interests to stop.
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide The hero may have had an easy path to the King of Demons because her generals, advisers or whomever may have wanted to have her offed because she wanted to stop their revenue streams by bringing an end to the war. They would at some point crown a new King of Demons who "likes to play ball". Of course this is how I read the situation and only my opinion. I believe that they did the right thing to end the war by destroying the processes that drive the war from within, in their own way. |

The medieval-looking script used on the maps at the beginning and the illuminated manuscript at the end is a substitution code for English and actually says things. Quite spoilerish things, actually -- the illuminated manuscripts during the ED animation are a synopsis for the plot of the entire series!
I've made an alphabet chart at http://rickadams.org/ciphers/maohyuu/maoyuuchart.jpg . (Figuring out things like this is a little hobby of mine.) |
