I must say I'm starting to feel slightly underwhelmed by this show. I know I was expecting a subdued fantasy epic about economics in the Middle Ages. But it just feels so... subdued... In the background there are promises of war and mages and harpies, but all I'm getting is people in rooms talking about stuff, over the course of a very long period of time, with random fanservicey bits. Anyone know what I mean?

I'm still sticking with it, of course, however it is seriously lacking in the action department.

Thank you CR for translating Maou-sama as Her Majesty instead of Demon King. At least that is more tolerable.

And... I'm having a bit of a hard time with these foodstuffs that are being introduced that somehow are unknown to the world. Corn I can see since if I remember correctly was unknown in Europe until the Pilgrims were introduced to it by the indians. Or maybe the conquistadors and the aztecs... Potatoes though, have been known in Europe for a very long time (though I dont know how long)...

I wish the show was a little bit more adventure-y than most Maou sitting in a room chatting... Id like to see Yuusha's adventures in the demon world too.

Best Maoyu fanart ever.

Actually, potatoes were also a food brought from the new world (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potato#History).

In Maoyu, Mao hasn't said where she's getting these new foods from, but I assume they're coming from the Demon Lands. If the demons already have more productive agriculture, I wonder what reforms need to be made in demon society to bring the war to an end.

Funny thing is there are at least three shows with Maou right now. This one, Problem Children, Senyu. And Maou being "Demon King' is a very literal translation; Satan might be more direct since we don't generally say "Demon King" in English. She is Her Majesty because she is a monarch but Maou doesn't mean Her Majesty...

You sure those are the best tats in Maoyuu? I think Cowgirl has 'em beat LOL

As for the show overall, I'm am mostly meh about it. I didn't want to watch a show about turnips, potatoes and corn. It is more the Aggie-Queen and the armor-wearing teleporter than Maoyuu at this point. I know the novels and manga are about this but... the hero is hiding in his room for six months, ug...

Might have to drop this which is sad as I really enjoyed the first episode but it has turned into Farmville...

I wont go into the whole literal translation thing again, if you forgot why I dislike it, then go back a few pages. I understand what the word means.

I was actually wondering that myself. Since starvation and hunger must not be problems in the demon world, I feel like that should have given them an edge initially in the war. I am curios as to what the "problems" of the deomn world will end up being since I haven't read the manga. On an agriculture note, I am fairly positive potatoes were first introduced as a crop in Europe in the late 1500s but didn't become a major crop until much later.

I will say that even though this doesn't have much action as of now, it is still one of my favorites for this season. I am not much of a "slice of life" anime fan unless there is also fantasy or sci-fi type aspects mixed in so this is still one of my favorites for this season.

If the anime follows the manga than there should be a some big warscenes comming up.
The stories just don't live from that, so we must be patient and see what the director made out of it.

I can understand the people that yearn for more action. Sometimes I would wish that Maou crushes someone with bare hands to show that she is not the Maou for nothing ... more than shown in ... *refrains from spoiling*

I love the show, but I can understand why it doesn't work for some people. However, this show was *never* about action nor was it marketed as one. I think the disappointment over a lack of action just shows misplaced expectations.

The Head Maid is clever, wise, and dangerous. I bet you never ever want to cross her.

I don't need action action ACTION but something happening in addition to the crop of the week would be nice! The first and second episode interactions between Mao and Yu, you know the ones in the title of the show, were good but since the Dotei Yu has decided to avoid the oppai Mao the show got a lot less interesting for me. I was expecting some economics but not this much.

Give it one more episode or perhaps this will be another one I watch and complain about each week. Obviously I enjoy complaining, hope it doesn't annoy you all too much... If so, let me know and I will do the unless you have something nice to say, don't say it thang...

The show is a huge reminiscence of Spice & Wolf, especially cast wise. The plot isn't exactly like S&W but I get some of those vibes. I'm not sure how excited I am for this but I'm fairly interested though this may be one of the more interesting shows I'm partaking in viewing for this season.

I agree completely. As soon as the merchant/agricultural talk started I was like "APPLES?".

Hey I loved Spice and Wolf but even THAT series moved faster than Maoyu. I'd rather marathon it at the end because seriously.. it's boring as hell right now.

It's a little early to make a definitive judgment, but so far this seems to be the best show of the season by a significant margin.
