FMA1 was the 1st that left me truly on the edge of my seat. I knew it wasn't how the manga ended at the time but it was a great twist ending no-one saw coming.

FMAB, this had me wondering how it'd end, love the whole greed twist near the end. Didn't see it coming, had to rewatch just to check what actually happened. Love how he makes his grand entrance!

Grave of the fireflies, had me in tears. Such a sad story and the horrid ways of humans in war.

Code Geass R2 was pretty sad, Death Note's ending was as sad as Code geass', maybe a little more. Elfen Lied had a cliffhanger ending, it was pretty sad tho...

Anohana.

Also Clannad After Story, Angel Beats (though the Yui episode hit me harder than the ending did), Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, and Azumanga Daioh (bet you didn't see that coming).

And, it's not in anime form yet, but the final route of Little Busters! (the VN) was the single most emotional thing I have experienced.

But for anime, Anohana wins.

Elfen Lied. It left me in tears and immobile for a day.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I could not believe it was over but it had such a great heart-warming ending (equivalent exchange ;])

Cowboy Bepop. It is truly a classic. Plus, the ending just tears your feelings with the lose of relationships and emotional action. Bang!

Death Note. Mwhahahaha!

The ending for Shiki really was messed up. Humans turn into the very thing they were afraid of the whole time. I can't really remember an anime that at the end made me feel sad for the bad guys. Really gets you thinking.

Definitely it has to be Death Note. I really didn't want Light (Kira) to die. I wanted him to kill all those L wannabees and rule the world as GOD, and have Misa with him too.

Did everyone whom watched Angel Beats! keep watching after the credits? Individual stories were sad in their own right, but the over all feel of the show was uplifting. The very end was really good, but Yui's and Iwasawa's episodes were rough as well as beautiful.

Elfen Lied - Have yet to read the managa but the ending in the anime was quite upsetting. Kouta and Lucy's moment together is one of the saddest scenes in anime.
