Hello fellow Otakus!
I am fairly new here, and does not know if it allready is made a post about this, but I guess I will make my own post anyway xD

After alot of thinking I have concluded with the fact that Anime and manga targeting girls (as the main audiance) is superior to those targeting males. (I am not thinking about "unisex" examples whom both genders adore, like Code Geass) But romance manga/anime in general.
Now, I am a male, and Love Hina was the first hardcore "romance" manga I was introduced too. A few of my friends liked it, and I read a few volumes myself, mostly because I was young/puberty is a strong force, but have in my later years read and watched much more shoujo and josei. And the emotions and feelings showed in the mentioned media for girls triuphs all the equals for boys, whom in my opinion are all dumbed down like /#¤"# harems. You might aswell read a hentai manga or whatever, as it in my opinion only may work as stimulation. Unconditional love without any feelings is a keyword when it comes to shounen romance. It is unrealistic, and in my opinion also booring. Of course, there are some really stupid reverse harem stuff for girls, but that is more the exception then the rule.
For those wondering I am heterosexuall, but also very feminine. Any opinions? (also excuse my language, hope it is understandable)

I wouldn't call anything superior, but rather I would say I am enjoying side A over the familiar side B currently. One day that opinion might change or perhaps it will get stronger.

One Piece, Gintama, FMA: Brotherhood, Berserk, Major, Monster
are all aimed at the male population so your argument is invalid.

Not to mention Steins;Gate, most recent masterpiece, spawned many fanboys
that drool over Makise Kurisu and that Tuturu girl.

There's more to shounen anime than just the harem genre, boy.

I agree that your typical shounen is usually bad. I also think the same way of shoujo, though. personally, I prefer seinen. never watched/read anything josei.

I think i understand what op means, but it's hard to explain.

In Shojo/Josei animes there are normally more feelings than in a Harem Shonen manga, thoose are normally about boobs, the main character screwing up and then getting the girl. Sure thoose can be romantic to, but not in the same way as in a shojo.

Of course this does not apply to every anime out there. There are alot fo feelings in Naruto and One Piece to, for example when

But sometimes it's nice to take a break from Romance, and watch a some Ecchi/Harem anime hah!

Yes, I prefer seinen as well. Though, all demographics have their high and low points.

Shoujo romances are hit or miss for me. The major problem I have with a lot of them is that they either internalise the main conflict too much (so it mostly involves a lot of inner monologue in the main character's head, which gets stale fast for me), or the conflict affects the main female so badly that she goes into hyper-weepy mode or hyper-gloomy mode. Two that I've really enjoyed are My Little Monster and Kimi ni Todoke, but others have disappointed me. I don't think I've seen any josei romances.

As for shounen/seinen romances... I tend to avoid fanservice-laden harem shows, but there are other types of romance aimed at males. Clannad, ef - a tale of memories/melodies, and Kokoro Connect are some great examples. These don't tend to fall into the pitfalls I described above for shoujo series.

Of course, there are some oddballs. Hanasaku Iroha felt so shoujo to me, but apparently it's shounen. I don't know where Toradora! fits, but it's my favourite of any romance anime. I guess I tend to prefer romances aimed at males, but I will gladly check any romance out if I like the sound of it, whoever it's aimed at.

yea, like how the female lead is usually the male idea of "the perfect woman" and whatnot... but then again, shoujo is just as guilty with their representation of guys.

FIRST ITS THE ANIME ITSELF THAT MATTERS AND FOR THE MOST PART NOT SUPERIOR.

First most of the posters and fans I see are male so how is that targettng girls no offense ladies..Second I think there are a lot of females in anime but also at least one male is invovled. Most of the popular animes have a mix of male and female. And if you new to anime there are of old anime that are classics and still watched today.iF you are only on CR Funimation has the darker violent deeper sci-fi genres along with TAN.I mean animes like Helsing Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop are not aimed at females bur an audience that like the violent genre.Ever watch FLCL,Gurren Lagann Death Note Ghost in The Shell, Last Exile very popular animes based more on the storylines than sex.i I DO AGREE THEY IS A TENDENCY TO HAVE MORE FEMALES IN SHOWS But is it for the males instead of femaleA lot of people are stating there are too many moe shows now..How About some recent such as High School Of The Dead,Broken Blade,Angel Beats.

Your posts are insightful even when they cause an uproar but you are dead on with this answer.

I think shoujo stuff mostly sucks. Like, 99.9% is total garbage. The art is often lousy and the content is heavy-handed and boring. Moe harem shounen gets really boring really fast, but it's still better than listening to teenage girls talk about their feelings while sparkling flowers bloom in the air.
But that's just me. If you like it, more power to you; go enjoy it.

If that is your opinion, you're welcome to it. I choose to neither agree nor disagree, since I have yet to watch every anime out in the world today, and I don't think I have enough time in this mortal coil to do so. My advice is watch it if you like it, and not to, if you don't. No ones opinion matters most, than your own.

Like many have said, I do not worry about the intended audience or genre. I am your everyday, hetrosexual 30+ year old guy. I have traditional social and personal relationships. I work a normal job, with normal hours, in the trucking industry.

But four of my top five animes: Clannad: After Story, Clannad, Ai Yori Aoshi and Nana.

Read/watch what you like and do worry about the opinions of others. Life is too short, as it is...
