Title says it all.

What is that one (or more) anime that you want to love (for various reasons)
but find yourself not being able to (for various reasons)?

I mean, for example.

I really want to love Naruto. I watch like 3 episodes each time I try and then put it on-hold.
Then I would get back to it, like 3 weeks later, only to put it on-hold again.

The story seems so interesting and I admit
the many deaths happening in the anime makes it so much more dramatic and intriguing.
Add the fact that I am a major shounen/action anime fan and you'd think I'd like it.
But despite all of this, I still find myself torn between not caring for it and disliking it.
No matter how hard I try, I just cannot like it.

But I must confess, I have defended Naruto from haters a numerous times.
Why is this? What's this strange attachment I have for this anime?
Why can't I "favoritize" it?

Discuss yours.

Avatar would have to be number one on my list. A bunch of my friends love it, and will discuss it ad nauseam. I really don't see the big deal.

I want to like K-On! but I can't stomach it when I see anime bands. I don't know why, but when I started getting fairly okay at guitar (after 6 years of grueling practice), I just can't seem to watch cute little anime girls just pick up instruments are play them like experts, whether they have the background for it or not.

I don't know, I've hung around young musicians for all those years of practice and I know how they are with their music and I guess I just can't believe what animes put forth on things like this.

It's weird I know, but I cringed at that familiar scene in Haruhi when she filled in for that band's lead and I also twinged at Angel Beats! every time their band played. It just... ugh... again, I can't put my finger on a definable reason.

And don't get me started on all the karaoke scenes countless anime have... ughhhhh...

I guess it just shatters my willing suspense of disbelief when I see that stuff. Hits a little too far into my familiarity zone I guess.

"Oh look at me! I can suddenly play the guitar as if I've been playing for years when I've only had a week of practice!!~"

or

Pretty much anything in R-15.

Bakemonogatari, when I think about it, I think its a great idea to go and watch it. Then I get to watching it and I just can't get through it. It's like having a pretty girlfriend, but I can't stand being around her. It is the definition of the phrase " I like the IDEA of you, more than I actually like you."

I don't have anything like that, since I usually agree with my own opinions.

Dragon Ball Z. For every thing this show does right, my conscious finds another two things wrong with it. I want to be fair and judge the show as someone who has seen it, and to better support future arguments.......but I just can't. It all seems so stupid to me!

One Piece: I've bought the first volume and even watched the first 5-6 episodes but I can't seem to stay interested...

K-ON!: Bunch of Moe girls eating sweets while never getting diabetes or fat, sorry if this comes as offensive to any fans but when I first heard about this show I heard it was a group of girls forming a band and playing music but I guess I was misinformed. I just couldn't get into it and eventually came to hate the 'slice of life' genre.

As for Naruto, I also had the same problem as you did. It was so hard to get into and episodes always seem to suffer from that DBZ crap where they'd just drag on... maybe try the manga, which won't give you that, as well as the early terrible art and fillers. I watch the anime when something good happened in the manga.

Ano Natsu de Matteru. Had a good premise and I thought I was really gonna enjoy it, but I just couldn't get into it at all. Even found some of the dramatic moments poorly executed kinda funny.

Princess Tutu, Ergo Proxy , and Honey and Clover. These were all series that I really wanted to like, but just couldn't for the same reason. That reason was because I personally found them rather boring. I'm not saying that they were boring, I'm just saying that I personally found them boring. All of them were series that I tried watching multiple times because I really wanted to like them, but in the end I just couldn't bring myself to.

Kanon was a harem that I really wanted to like, but just couldn't. Now, that series is almost universally praised as brilliant, and I don't disagree, but I just found Yuichi to be rather bland and banal. I actually have this problem with a lot of "popular harems." I really want to like them, but if i think that main character is too bland, then I just can't enjoy them.

However, I'm a fan of almost all slice of life comedies (like K-on, Lucky Star, Kill me Baby, etc) which are series that other people probably want to like but can't bring themselves to because they find them boring lol.

Seems to me like a lot of people are having a blast with Sugo Chara, but I've been trying to get past episode 20 for four months. And when I look at the episode comments omigosh. WTF do you mean you're watching this for the 3rd time! I'm not even neck deep in my first >:(

Hidan no Aria. I like the action, and I get a nice shana vibe from it, except Kinji actually has a backbone. but the fanservice just dumbs it down, and Shirayuki just pisses me off for some reason. I don't know why.
