Fansubs for content that has not been licensed in your country is not as bad but it still prevents companies who later license it to get less income from it.

Needless to say there is a reason Anime is not gaining much industry momentum outside japan and any it has gained is probably mostly from legal streaming services like CR.

Pirating is Stealing and anyone who says otherwise is a criminal and immoral person.

What companies? I can wait forever to see some anime's in my country like for example: Cardfight, Hakkenden or Magi. The change for them airing in TV, issued on DVD or other sources in my country are more likely zero.

If my only options to watch it is:
a) download them from Internet by subgroup or rip group
b) wait for they released in English is some country & them ship them
I chose then option a) because its to expensive to buy all animes that I want to watch on DVD & ship then.

I will not buy CR subscription when people from USA can watch all the season anime, when I can watch only less than 20% of it for the same money.
When animes were distributed in my country by DVD I bought them, but they not currently any more (only mangas are available).

And about "criminal and immoral person" You should not say such things, its only Your personal toughs, I don't fell like a criminal & my morality is my mortality not yours.

Pirating is stealing, I don't know if Polands laws are different but someone who breaks the law is a criminal. However I get, if it is not licensed in your country then obviously your not immoral to watch it anyway you can. Especially if you know a company is not going to license it in your country in the near future. If CR has it then you should watch it through a legit source. Again assuming pirating is illegal in your country. I am from the US so my point of view concerns those in the US and similar countries with distributors/licensors.

I think CR would benefit more if they had some serious competition. With competition, you get better and top the other. The number of anime titles that you can watch for free alone is what got me to come here. Without CR I would have never seen "Fist of the North Star" in it's original form, same with Lucky Star, and Go-Lion (aka Voltron).

I think many of you have seen anime here that you've been trying to find forever on the internet. So to the OP, please tell those idiots that before they laugh at you again about CR.

^^I support crunchyroll, but when i first made an account back in 08 crunchyroll wasn't licensed at all and carried much more options in anime.... I remembered watching an anime and soon after it became licensed and that anime i was watching was gone from crunchyroll, i really wanted to continue watching it so i decided to look for it and found it in other websites, and honestly i watch anime from websites that are unlicensed because i can watch it when it is out and also there are so many good animes that crunchyroll never streamed...

Most people would say that illegal downloads are bad for any industry, but I usually buy a series if I think it has some replay value. For shows like Wangan Midnight and The Wonder Years (not anime but something I want in my collection), getting those on dvd/bluray proved to be impossible because they either don't have U.S. licensing (Wangan), or they can't clear songs (Wonder Years). The last time I paid for an anime without either watching or downloading first was Eureka 7. After paying to watch that (only made it about 25 episodes into this yawn of a show), I started to dl/watch online before I buy any anime. I bought Steins;Gate, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Samurai Champloo, Serial Experiments Lain, and countless others with that strategy. If I like the show, I will buy it.

Edit: If I don't like the subbed version, I try the english version (if dubbed) to see if it's worth my time. Case in point, BACCANO!

Okey, so beside any reason mentioned above I will not buy CR subscription as long as they will require to give security number from my debit card to buy it - I refuse to give to any one.

Well, i dont mind supporting anime / manga in any way, but the legal sites like CR has such a small ammount available and i guess its for a good reason aswell.

So in a way just chill and let everything take its course, i can say here in denmark if i only watched what was legal for me, i'd have watched only like 2 or 3 good animes, and alot of mediocre ones, and really? i wouldn't even bother trying to watch more since i'd feel like anime was rarely good.

So what they are doing are actually benefitting the international anime scene if anything, imo the worst thing any publisher could do was to force some site to be closed solely based off of some of their licenses.

I know what your getting at but its entirely safe. You think CR would risk scamming a single person? Their reputation would go down the toilet for a few hundred dollars only. Only way i can think of it being dangerous is if you had a virus on your computer.

I admit I was a heavy Down Loader of fan-subbed anime and was a huge supporter of that community for several years. At the time it was really the only to way to get current content to watch especially since I lived out in the middle of nowhere remotely close to store that even carried an anime selection to buy.

Then around 2009 Crunchyroll, Anime Network and a few other sites went legit ...they approached the industry in Japan with the idea of streaming content and got the rights to do so legally. My loyalties did a complete 180, I went from downloading 1-2 gigs worth of fansubs a week to streaming those same episodes via a monthly subscription cheaper then getting HBO on my cable.

Sites sprang up and came to be like Crunchyroll because the Japanese Anime industry was getting ready to forsake the American market. They we're actively targeting illegal Fan-Sub sites using US courts and the amount of content made available to companies like Funimation was becoming less and the quality lacking.

Instead of it being the end for many Sites Like Crunchyroll in my opinion saved the industry not only are we getting more content today then we where 3 years ago but we're getting simulcasts of our favorite shows, the same shows we had to wait several days for fan-subs to be released I'm watching here.at the same time it's airing in Japan.

So in closing those peeps you came across shouting their glories for the Fan-Subbing community , can shout and push their opinions all they want doesn't change the fact that those same sites are slowly disappearing as the authorities catch up with them and the community as a majority discover the awesomeness that is Crunchyroll and other sites that have stepped in to save our Fandom from idiots who'd rather support stealing the content they claim to love then supporting the industry that produces it.

Why do you think those cards have a security number?

Someone can snap an image of your card while your using it and then use it at any place online that doesn't require the security code (which wouldn't be captured, since it is on the back of the card).

The security code verifies you have physical possession of the card.

On another website I browse which discusses anime but where posting illegal links goes unpunished the people there laugh when I mention I have a CR account. In their mind, if you want to support anime you should steal it then buy figures and music if you like it.

That's just crap. I'm not here to support the anime industry directly, I'm here to support the localization of anime. The translators and coders and whatnot who bring anime to us online. Don't support them and the whole localization indurstry collapses. Just look at fansubs of Saint October, Fushigiboshi no Futago Hime, or Pretty Rhythm Aurora Dream to see why we cannot depend on fansubbers alone. We need Crunchyroll.

So it bothers me not just the attitudes of the people who steal it but when I find sites blatently disregarding copyright.

Anyway, I just did a google search for Boku no Imouto wa Osaka Okan because I was curious about the voice actors in it and the first page was a link to Wikipedia, and an entire page of anime streaming sites with the episodes online.

What can I, or we if others join me, do about this? Is there a way to report it to CR? Would it make a difference? Being the NA/English copyright holders they can pursue legal action but I've learned that in many cases such sites are ignored.

I have a spare shoulder you can cry on, come here bro I have another account that does pay for membership here on crunchyroll, but since CR most of the time doesn't have the animes I'm looking for, I use the other streaming sites as well. I pay to watch anime here, but I'm not being a little bitch to other people who don't. And as for what you can do, be a good otaku, take a seat, quiet down and watch your slice of life animes here on CR.

Looking at it for purely selfish reasons wouldn't it benefit me if more people paid for anime? Or anyone for that matter? Why then would anyone want to discourage that practice?

My subscription here as well as my legitimate anime collection goes to supporting the creators and licensors as well as allow me stream on my tv/playstation. That being said, if no other legitimate site has the anime, I'll go to such sites.
