Click to show or hide I'm joking, you can like whatever you want haha this show is tied for third best with Maoyuu for me personally this season Second is Kotoura-San and first is Problem Children Never even seen problem children O_o you should give it a shot it's not bad. More super powered fun with main characters who are actually pretty confident in themselves. Personally I like Unlimited a bit better but Problem Children is a good series I think I will give it a shot = ) |

Problem Children is definitely my fave this season :) I think I will give it a shot = ) |

A little disappointed with episode 3.
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide So these Pandra guys are only bad in name when actually they have a good heart. Too cheesy for me. What's next, Andy would join them for real. I hope the anime doesn't follow this path. |

I don't think it's a clear cut case of Good or Bad.
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide PANDRA exists for the sake of Espers, and a lot of the nature of the organization stems from Hyobu's own background and personality. As a former Child Soldier Hyobu has a very soft heart when it comes to Esper children. He under no circumstances wants them to experience a life like he had and he has gone out of his way to save them. Magi, Momiji and Yoh for example are all war orphans that Hyobu raised himself. After the death of their parents Hyobu is the closest thing they have to a father. while the nature of the organization is friendly almost family like atmosphere that too is a product of the Major's background. The unit he was a part of in ww2 had a very similar sense of comradery, particularly between Hyobu and Fujiko. So yes in the eyes of Espers, particularly those who have faced oppression and hardship at the hands of Normals, they are going to seem like good guys. but Hyobu has very little empathy for normals. As seen in the first two episodes he will not hesitate to kill Normals for his goals. Episode 2 in particular I think shows that as he leveled a large chunk of the city to kill his enemy. Lets face it it is unlikely all those houses were uninhabited. Even in Episode 3 the look on his face when Princess Sophie is talking about her dream of a world for Espers and normals living together shows you what he thinks of that idea. Hyobu has heard those kind of words before and the very same person who said them to him is the one who ultimately put a bullet in his head. Hyobu will always give into the requests of a child Esper. It's his nature, he doesn't want any child to suffer like he did. He can be a very friendly and kind person towards other espers. But he is also someone who sees normal humans as a threat to his people. He knows a war between Espers and Normals is coming and he intends to win. When it comes down to it Hyobu will slaughter a hundred normals to save the life of 1 Esper. |

Grey, your the last line in that spoiler up there, that's not something that good, or even grey organizations do.
It's pretty much pitch as black evil that is Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide deciding one of your race is worth 100 (really more in his case) of another. Lots of examples I could use (trying not to go Godwin, but its there) would seem ok if not downright friendly to their 'own people' |

Lots of examples I could use (trying not to go Godwin, but its there) would seem ok if not downright friendly to their 'own people' you are right there, from Hyobu's perspective it's about protecting his people from the perspective of normals he's a genocidal mad man. the problem is that Hyobu's perspective is backed up by his own experiences. He's seen first hand what he needs to protect his people from. In his mind he is fighting against a despicable evil that would see all Espers dead or enslaved. Sure not all normals are like that, and we have ones like the people at BABEL and the Princess from episode 3. But we also have those guys from episode 1 and much worse in the world. Think of it from another perspective How do you think the Egyptians viewed Moses? From the perspective of the Jews he saved them and lead them to freedom. but for the Egyptians? Bringer of Plagues, Locusts, killer of their first born. Everyone's hero is someone else's villain. |

There's limits though. The Japanese probably weren't too fond of MacArthur, but genocidal is genocidal :P
(not that it matters much, I guess it's just a thing for me, the 'megavillian justified by something horrible done to him/her in the past' is a reasonably common trope in JP stuff, and it always irks me) |

It's why I always compare Hyobu to Magneto in X-Men.
Magneto saw first hand what evil humanity is capable of, once they separate one group as being different from the rest. Protecting Mutant kind from the atrocities he saw and experienced first hand, was always his driving goal with the Brotherhood of Mutants. Ditto for Hyobu, though in his case there is the added knife in the back in that he was shown a wonderful dream of a future where Espers and Normals lived and worked together only to have it snatched away by the people he trusted most. Both men are fighting against what they precieve as an incoming genocide against their kind by adopting a strike first attitude. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide In Hyobu's case he also has the added motivation of a powerful precog who has predicted the outcome of that very war, an outcome he is rather desperate to prevent |

of course what I was really hoping for this episode was Fujiko vs. the Major.
I guess they might want to take some time to build up to that considering their shared history. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide |

Episode 5 I am still enjoying this series quite a bit! Yugiri is sooo kawaii in this episode. I'm glad she's getting out more rather than being on missions all the time. I liked the tensions between Babel and Andy again. I did not like the way those people at the amusement park was treating her.. Damn, she's just a little girl. Esper? Hell, she was much more useful than anyone there. So basically, this episode showed that being an esper is very hard in this world. Yup, it clearly is. |

The fear of Espers is what both PANDRA And BABEL are fighting against in different ways.
In Hyobu's case he figures it's a lost cause so he has put his efforts into creating a world just for Espers. For those who just want a peaceful life he gives them that, both on the Catastrophe and on a hidden island he's got tucked away someplace (it even has it's own amusement park) For BABEL it's about creating a world where normals and esper co-exist and trust each other. They employ Espers for the sake of helping society and proving to Normals that Espers aren't monsters to be feared and hated. Seeing Yugiri in action was quite something though. She's at least level 6 and very possibly a level 7 Telepath This episode also narrows our timeline down quite a lot. The PANDRA kids don't seem to be at school yet but Yuuri is already there. so that places it between chapters 140 and 195 |
