I agree with him. When reading through the manga of ZKC I definitely kept thinking about its similarities to X-Men. Aside from Kyousuke/Magneto I think its more about the themes presented rather than character similarities. Mutants and espers are both discriminated against, Babel and the X-Men both fight for trying to keep the harmony between humans and mutants/espers, and then there is Pandra and the Brotherhood of Mutants who both fight for mutants/espers and their superiority over humans.

Pandra and harmony between espers and humans? What kind of signs have they given for that in Unlimited? They just seem like a ''Japanese esper defense force'' .. Which is bullocks imho.. Who'd use 14~ year old girls for a job that could directly danger their life. I have to say that Babel doesn't have a moral base. In X-men, the children ''mutants'' were given education and weren't really used in the front line at all, so I have to say that X-men is a stereotypical ''save the world'' organization, while Babel is far from it.
And I'd say that there might be more to Pandra considering that they're trying to make their own products, etc.. So I'd say they're also far from ''ESPER SUPERIORITY GROUP.''.. There should be more to it.

Things aren't quite black and white like in X-men.

But is he killing em relentlessly? No. He didn't kill the princess, did he?
I think Kyousuke just hates the normals cause of his personal reasons, but he also knows that it wouldn't make his friends happy if he really did kill all the normals. Which is why I think he's going to aim for something different from pure ''Esper supermacy''.

Well Cliffhanger is still hanging

but this flashback arc is going to fill in a lot of information important to the Cliffhanger.

Like what is in the Box, Andy is trying to steal for one.

I just began watching the original Zettai Karen Children recently and I'm glad that some of Kyosuke's past is revealed along with Fujiko. I did expected a little more from the episode but it was still a nice watch imo.

It's a bit jarring comparing the two isn't it.

Zettai Karen is a very kid friendly series, they even tonned it back a bit from the Manga (EX: One story replaces a cold blood murderer from the manga with costumed vigilante who punishes criminals), and the plot progresses really damn slowly. It's about 20 episodes before the real details start to show up and the best stuff is in the second half of the series.

but on the flip side we get a nice array of fun characters like Mio and Muscle (who did get an appearance in Unlimited but he was on his best behavior there)

Personally though I like the Manga best, particularly after the time skip to them in Middle School, where the Black Phantom story line really picks up.

Yup, it definitely has that lighthearted tone with the original series. Seems like Kyosuke plays the role of the antagonist but at times, I feel like he's also helping the protagonists in sort of a way, or at least teach them some sort of lesson.

Enjoyed this week's episode, and seeing Hyoubu's past is bringing things to light (and no I'm not going to spoil myself by looking at the manga, so no one bother telling me.)

However, I'm sorry that Kyousuke didn't know one of the top rules of anime is to never trust a fox-faced man with glowing glasses. That guy gives me the creeps. He looks so young and trusting too, even if his father was a dick.

Also, everyone's saying that the Aya Hirano did the voice for young Kyosuke Hyobu, however they are listing his voice actor as being Marina Inoue. Why are people saying that it's Hirano?

I was kind of hoping they would show the original prophesy of the Queen that the Dolphins showed Hyobu as a kid but over all I enjoyed the flashback to his youth.

Honestly the adventures of the ESP unit would make a good show on it's own. Hyobu was a natural Shonen hero and pretty likable as a main character. Plus Fujiko was cute too.

Same here! I enjoyed the flashback much more than I originally thought especially with the latest aerial dogfight. I did also wish that Fujiko get more screen time with her flashback but otherwise, a good episode.

Oh and that ending by Kyousuke was just pure badass.

Great episode!

Awesome ending to the flashback arc, and after seeing the episode several times, I can see how Hyoubu's situation mirrors Andy's. Andy wanted to be accepted and only found acceptance in a military/government group that allowed espers (not to mention that it's the only place that allows espers), so did Hyoubu. Poor Kyousuke put his trust in a person that ends up betraying him, and I think that eventually Andy will also run into the same situation. But who will save him?
