Based on my expirience with Japanese women in real life they can tend to be a little moe. When they get excited their voices can become cutesy and high pitched but thats about where the similarities end.
The best way I can think of it anime stereotypes are no different then the TV sterotypes in other countries. There might be a speck of truth within them but don't expect Japanese women to be like a different species. Women are women and people are people no matter where you're from. Japanese women probably have more in commen with the women from where you're from than differences. |

Well, a class from Japan came to visit my Japanese Class a few weeks ago. From what I can tell, there were a lot of valid stereotypes. There was the cute and outgoing "loli" one, and the shy, quiet "moe" one. And there was one who seemed like she did not want to be there at all, by the look she had on her face. I determined her stereotype as "tsundere."
But the other girls seemed normal. I'm not saying this is all true, but this is what I witnessed. |

I've had numerous Japanese exchange students live at my house. And they're nothing like the girls in the animes
They're polite and well-mannered |

I'm Japanese, and I go to Japan every summer to visit my friends and family there, and let me tell you... Some people are normal but some people can go to the extreme. You will actually see girls like that in Japan, and a lot of them are in some sort of SM addiction.
Edit: I forgot to say, my friends in Japan are mostly the party animals. Most people who come to North America etc as an exchange student are here to study and not to party. |
