I was so irked by the ending I couldn't even bring myself to post. http://yumemirusekai.wordpress.com/tag/amnesia-first/ is a really nice walkthrough of the game that gives lots more info/closure of the routes (although Fitzgerald's explanation is much clearer and, obviously, succinct!)

Considering how dramatically amazing the actual ending to Ukyo's route is, I can't believe they gave half the final episode over to Orion!! Ridiculous! The 'lull' of Ikki's and Kento's routes turned out to be the best part, who'd have guessed it was all going nowhere? These discussions were actually infinitely more interesting than the series!!

Wow, I browsed thru that link, and it appears the heroine has a name! LOL! I think it would've been better if they gave the heroine a name though in the anime, and not a name in the VN. Reason being, in VNs, I believe it's a lot easier to place yourself as the protagonist than in animes. So I believe they actually did the opposite of what really should've been done.

In case u guys are wondering, the heroine's name is (at least according to the VN):

Sorry, but that's just the name the player chose for her (she mentions it in reply to a comment somewhere)! I believe, unusually, there's no default name for the heroine in the game, (although players do often choose their own names anyway.) I think I mentioned in an earlier post that I was expecting her finding her name to be the 'key' to the mystery, but it seems like the producers decided to preserve the 'self-insertion' aspect of a VN: I think a lot of us feel the experiment flopped!

Not so fast! Volume one already sold almost 3000 DVDs, the anime! When Blu Rays are added on Thursday this means it broke even for the anime alone. Along with game sales I'd say if the game gets a sequel then the show might too, even if it has all new characters, etc. or even a completely new title it seems like this Otome game to anime experiment was, while not a huge success not a huge failure, not a flop at all.

Thank you! I'll keep an eye on those pages you suggested! I can't read Japanese.... I've just started with Hiragana but I'm having a hard time remembering. I'm old ( ) and my brain isn't working as well as back when I learned English...

Here is the first volume, it has links to other volumes, on amazon.co.jp, just released 2 days ago:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00ALNOLLA

This is Japanese only however so... you might want to wait for the Sentai release instead later this year:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-01-11/sentai-filmworks-adds-amnesia-romance-anime

BTW, I was 34 years old, 7 years ago when I started learning Japanese so you are NOT TOO OLD!!!! You can do it!

I understand some standard sentences and some words due to watching waaaay too much anime. But buying a dvd in just Japanese is not in the stars for me just yet. I love me some subs, so I can still hear the original voices.

Thanks for the motivation! I found a free app that's helping me. Not quite sure where to go from there, though.

I can't wait for the dvd release! Amnesia is such a mystery to me. I can't stand the "heroine"and there are many more reasons to quickly forget this anime, but for some reason I can't stop thinking about it.

Anime DVD sales are pretty good! I must say I'm shocked but DVD only (which this demo tends to buy more of) is almost at 3000 and is over the break even line. Blu Ray sales will likely add up to something and more next week are probably coming though maybe not enough to rank. So the show did better than I expected. Along with game sales I say they'd consider this to be a success.

I don't mean to shock u even more, BUT............................. THE GAME IS GETTING A SEQUEL! LOL! It's called Amnesia Crowd and has a release date of April 18, 2013. So don't forget to schedule a flight to Japan a day before so u can wait in line and buy the 1st copy! LOL.

They also already have a Jap website for the new game: http://www.otomate.jp/amnesia_crowd/#
And it seems they've added a new character named ルカ (Luka) to the mix. I'd be curious to find out what the story is about in this sequel, but it seems that on the site, u can't copy the info (Kanji/Kana) and paste into Google Translate, and there's too much Kanji there that I can't read.

http://www.otomate.jp/amnesia_crowd/#story

The font is really grotty and it is not even an image, it is flash which I guess you can't even use for OCR so I can't even zoom it bigger but I think it says, where [He/him] is the name of the guy in the route I assume:

First panel, Suspense Story

-- On a day in August, the girlfriend disappears --

In order to get back her lost memories, along with [sprite] Orion they go back to a certain day in August.

Heroine is mixed up in it by fate--

Heroine becomes separated from [him], and attempts to get back into her relationship with him.
[He] races around in order to rescue Heroine.

Each perspective of Heroine with [him] paints a suspense story.

Second panel, Working

"Welcome back, master"

Butler and maid waiter concept cafe "
...

Third panel, Love

Meet [him], a new season---

The story after the [Later] ending.
Getting back her memories joining Heroine to him with her heart.
The season flows, happy days send two people on new changes and travels.
New outfits and character routes, sweet wistful romance in this love story.

Hmm, that sounds a lot like the first one, if not the same...

Yeah, that does sound eerily similar to the 1st game.

I was reading some more info that someone posted on the Amnesia Crowd game here:
http://konnistique.tumblr.com/post/35081480863/amnesia-crowd-otomate-otome-game-release-2013
And it actually sounds like it's more of an "enhanced" version of the 1st game (since there is a new character and mini-games, and “Another Story” derived from a certain point in the main story), instead of a direct sequel to the storyline of the 1st game. That's a little disappointing. Not really sure why this game is listed as a sequel at a couple places that I looked at (Wikipedia & @ the popular Visual Novel database http://vndb.org/v11186). I guess maybe it's listed as a sequel since it goes further than the events in the Amnesia Later game, where she regains her memories.

i like how the disappointment of the ending has caused everyone that is genuinely interested in the anime to look for a truer better ending

3000 already!? I am amazed and know not what to say... I mean the game is really popular - there's already a sequel 'Amnesia Later', and as you've all established 'Amnesia Crowd' is en-route... And yes, it does seem they're just enhanced versions of the story, rather than new events. I don't think I'll be watching any future seasons somehow!

Most definitely. I went off in search after the disappointment of Kento's one episode (yes, I'm still not letting go of that one!) I remain baffled by how you can be handed the whole script for something and make so little of it.

I went to the trouble of making a quick translation and someone at that link had already done one, LOL Ah well, always fun to translate!

Easier to make small mods than a whole new game but I bet they're working on it!

Well, that's the good thing about a poor ending, you can always do it over again! Especially with a VN adaptation1

Yes, first volume came out last week so sales numbers are out. 3000 DVDs we know about, BD numbers won't be out until Thursday.

I know, this easily could've been a much longer series. I honestly think I prolly could've done a better job at writing the storyline of the anime if I had the full script of the VN game!

Somehow, I don't think there will be an additional season, but I wouldn't be surprised if they make maybe an OVA ep or 2 of what happened after the 1st season of the anime (since they definitely have the material for it from the 3 VN games).
