I'd say most younger fans have a harder time getting into older anime.
The same way I can't get into the anime ancients like Galaxy Express 999 or Captain Harlock.
I tried them but just... nope. Too old :<
So I'm going to say Legend of Galactic Heroes, in hopes that someone will get curious, as it's one of the few ancients that I did get into, and loved. It's also 150 some eps, which for me is rare, I usually stick to shorter anime.

The irony with this question is all the anime I watch.
You probably thinking why such a broad term, it's because most of the people I know only know of it being adult content. Since they met me their view has changed somewhat, though they still believe anime is adult natured in general.
I find if you take that view, how many tv shows and films openly go into adult content that they watch before 9pm. It's identical, if not more so for the other shows.
I find it harder to watch some of the older anime, or anime that depends on japanese folklore or gives little backstory/info to the plot.
Usually takes a couple of eps for me to get interested or not.

I love Sword Art Online, Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece. Granted all these have a huge following, there's a lot of people who can't get into them whatsoever.

I think this a hard one because I like some shows that others like a lot too but others didnnt give a chance or just disliked it..Really its on the viewer.I have read rave reviews and starting watching a series and said this not me.Then some shows I liked and people didnt like.Anime has so many genres you going to have fans of one genre defend it to death.Ill give an example Teekyu a brilliant short anime that people who liked were really into it.Others didnt watch because it was a short and the show moved fast.

I enjoy a lot of anime that you can turn your brain off while watching because I need to relax during my off time. However, most people find these anime to be annoying or unenjoyable.

Fairy Tail, alot of people dont like Fairy Tail. People compare it to other animes and it doesn't live up to their "standards". But FT is a relaxing anime and something enjoyable.

I like shows like Astarotte's Toy and Magi.........though, for some reason, whenever I tell my friends about them, they shut down, one in particular. Hell, I could on record with the amount of times I keep saying "It's not THAT bad, you really should give it a shot!" to them. Even if YOU don't like Astarotte's Toy, what can you say about a show that's, essentially, Japan's retelling of the Arabian Nights?.......

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed Kids on the Slope, which a lot of people ended up not liking. It helps that I haven't seen Cowboy Bebop yet, so i had no expectations when going into the show.
I also loved loved LOVED My Ordinary Life, but it did poorly in Japanese sales and a lot of people don't like its humor.
Big Windup is one of my favorite anime, but it's a sport anime, so it doesn't have a lot of fans.

Woo My Ordinary Life! I didn't know that it wasn't very popular, well goes to show how little I know about that kind of stuff.
Anyway I thought Blue Exorcist was pretty good, but it looks like some people thought otherwise.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
One of the best anime i ever watched but the people i know don't watch it because its a little bit bloody and a little bit psycho, even if i tell them it gets soooo much better in the second season.

Your friends must have small attention spans then because compared to some of the stuff I've seen Durarara!! is a lot faster
