Normally not to bad though; never had to pay more than $60 for 6-8 people.

wow thats nice..... my limit is $300 per group. I would love to have to pay $60.... but hey if I'm the host then it wouldn't matter

I just don't make friends with cheapskates and moochers.

I'm generous with my friends, because none of us penny-pinch when we're out with one another, and none of us try to take advantage of each other.

Yeah mines usually consists of my COO aka cheif of operations and the rest of the board members (including me) that get together for lunch or dinner. And we all take turns so it is mutual between us all.

LOL I do the same thing!

One night, a group of friends went out to dinner at this Asian Fusion restaurant. We were all exchanging presents because of Christmas. Now I only got a present for my best friend (since I really only am friends with her - rest were high school acquainteses). Now I felt bad because basically only my best friend got presents from everyone and she gave a present to each one of us - so I figured I'd cover the tab for everyone as my Christmas present to them.

One of the guys said when I took my wallet out to pay - Oh had I known you were paying I would have ordered a lot more!

I hate that a guy said that. >>' of course anyone in general shouldn't have.

My sister's husband seems to think our parents are made out of cash. So anytime he comes over to their house, he is like "where we going for lunch (or dinner)?" and then makes suggestions of the nearest steak places he can think of (usually).
He then proceeds to order surf & turf and is not even the slightest bit squeamish when the waitress asks how the check should be split...
He's a pig in that respect.

And my mom's a sucker and never learns or speaks up. She complains to me, but she won't do anything to fix the situation...
Meanwhile, my sister and her husband owe my mom at least $60k from loans she has helped with (cars, apartment, house payments, school loans, etc...). Everytime they have an extra dollar they spend it and never plan on paying her back. Makes me furious.

Yea I don't get people like that to be honest. I'm the opposite with it. If I find out someone else is paying for my meal I go super cheap even more so than what I would if I were paying. I remember a couple of times when more distant family would get together and we would go out to dinner. I would always know that it was someone else paying so I would just end up getting like a salad. I would say I was full even if I wasn't and then go home and grab something else small to eat.

That sucks big time. I pretty much have a rule when it comes to family and loaning money. If it is someone who I know will do their best to pay me back and has the ability of doing so then it is a loan that I just don't care too much about. If it is anyone else then it is simply a gift and the money is lost. If they end up paying it back then I am very happy and surprised but if they don't then I'm not bothered by it at all. I also only loan out money that I can afford to lose permanently so it doesn't come back to hurt me later.

Give a man a dollar and he will spend it
Give a man a dollar and teach him to invest it, he will be set forever.

I don't give out loans, i sit down with my family and draw up expense charts and financial plans.

As for the original question i don't mind people going crazy on my tab, if i offer my tab i expect it.

I've never had money problems so it's never bothered me so long as the people I was with enjoyed themselves.

It's the sisters husband. They get lumped into the family category at that point so I feel it needs to get treated the same way. If that means they don't get a loan then too bad for them they should have made better choices in life and need to find their own way out. Which is usually more beneficial to them in the long run.

My friends and me are pretty good about it. However if they happen to be strapped for cash I suggest I cook for them instead. Then we go grocery shopping and eat while watching anime or a movie. Lot cheaper and just as fun.
