I expected a lot more after the first episode. But after the second or third episode I dropped my expectations and expected a more or less average show, and then the show ended up exceeding my expectations. All in all, I think "refreshing" is a nice word to describe this show. It can be pretty cliched, and frankly cheesy at times, but ultimately I enjoyed every episode, and thought it had a good balance of the serious and not-so-serious. I don't really miss it at all, and I will probably never watch it again, but I had a damn good time. I'm also really happy that I got to see a show with a conclusive conclusion. It's been a while since I've seen a show that actually ends, and does so pretty well.

I don't think it is a spoiler to say that the super great beginning is in fact ANIME ONLY. After that it followed the manga more closely but the manga actually starts out with Kotoura-san coming in as a transfer student out of the blue. You only learn about her past as it is revealed. That's why, as a manga reader, I was not surprised by the change of pace and I loved the episodes that followed. I love, Love, LOVE the anime only beginning but in a way I wish they hadn't used it as it seems to have set a lot of people up to expect something different. Ah well, I still love it!
