It's been a long damn year since I've seen karuta being animated. With that being said, this episode was a good opening to what's to come. The OP song was okay (not too special) but there is a particular someone I want to see in a rematch with against Chihaya. Based on the OP song and what Tachi mentioned briefly, I will be expecting a rematch between her and Shinbou. At any rate, that speech at school was hilarious. Lol'd @ Chihaya. Well, at least they managed to get 20 potential members. Too bad none of them seems to actually knows shit about the game with even one girl aiming for Tachi. With this being said, the romance part of the series will take place this season.

Click to show or hide Great episode, but that new girl... I hope she gets more interesting because the character depth in this series is what I love most and she just seems SOOO superficial. She just thought Taichi was attractive and now she's determined to go after him? Bitch, please. I loved the conflict between the original 5 members, that could go in some interesting directions! I love Chihaya's dedication to others and passion for karuta that really shined in this episode.

I'm not reading the manga so I don't know what happens but it would be nice if they progressed with more than the card playing levels.

Honestly very little. What I adore about this anime is the fact that the writing of the relationships between the players are more important than the actual game knowledge. The game itself has ridiculously simple rules but even those have complex mechanics on how to get the cards faster. It's not a "battle" card game which IMO is a bit more complicated for the average user. This anime is all about the relationships and character development. Watching series 1 though I honestly believe is a must to get the background on the main 6 characters going into series 2.

Click to show or hide At first I was worried Sumire was going to have too much of a part in the series though I LOVED how Taichi totally struck her down in such a way that was .. perfect I am still hoping to see the Arata episodes. That's my favorite character!

Yeah, I was happy as well to see Shinbou prominently featured in the OP--thin version, no less I hope we get even more of her story, as well as some epic battles. Lots of people seem to dislike the new girl, but, as is typical for this show I think, she showed depth at the end. If a poem about faded beauty can move her to tears, she's clearly someone who is embracing her youth, and I don't think that's silly at all. It's not necessarily superficial for her to want to live for love. I'm sure she'll grow, as well. We also get to learn yet more about the world of this game; I had to look up both bozu mekuri and genpei. Seems there are far more things one can do with karuta cards than just competitive karuta.

Sumire is pretty annoying, I presume, to allow room for some nice character development. She can have Taichi as far as I'm concerned, bring Arata back for Chihaya! Not that she's ever focused on romance anyway but still I'd like to see Arata around more . It's going to be a long wait for next week's episode. I feel a marathon of the first season coming on soon.

I felt Chihayafuru really had a connection with him and then it was taken away and it still feels like something is missing to me...
