Yea, I agree with your point. At some point when they're not in the match Taichi needs to tell Chi how he feels otherwise it will always be like it currently is. The hissy fit is annoying. As far as the Queen and Chi playing again I think it would als be cool to see Arata and Taichi play each other and then my favorite battle would be to see Chi and Arata play each other. I would just say keep rooting for who you want out of the triangle because you want to stay with who you feel is the better choice. It would be awkward going against how you feel right? :)

Yeah, I'd still actually be rooting for Arata, so there's no point I forgot to mention I'm looking forward to Shinobu and Arata's match too! That one is going to be very interesting! I wonder how many episodes that little arc will be. Of course I would love to see Chihaya and Arata play each other but for some reason I don't think it's going to happen at this tournament. Hopefully I'm wrong! Taichi and Arata playing each other would be interesting to a point, but overall that match would be way too one sided.

Maybe before the end of this season Arata and Chi can do a game even if it isn't a tournament. The Queen and Arata would be awesome to see.

I wish there were an English version of this game, has anyone else looked into getting the cards ($$$) or learning how to play?......or is that just me? I found an app for the ipad, but I haven't tried it yet...XD

Electronic diva "Hatsune Miku" reads out "one hundred waka poems (Hyakunin-Isshu)" by one phrase a phrase!! In this application, you can play the poems from 1 to 100 sequentially or in shuffling order.....

The cards are not expensive really. Hatsune Miku must be hilarious reading karuta though! We posted some web pages earlier that read them for free.

Amazon.co.jp has cards, I should really pick some up...

Yeah, that would be interesting.

However, I would rather see Arata and Taichi play in a winner-take-all match, with the winner getting Chihaya!

No, I'm totally into learning how to play! I can recognize about 20 cards now. And I got an app too! I've tried the "Miku" one but was kind of ehh with that app. I got a different app that's much better in my opinion with a iTunes gift card from like 6 years ago. LOL

I found some online printable cards and this helpful study packet. Oh and I really want to buy this sometime:
http://kimalysong.tumblr.com/post/39090178873/chihayafuru-karuta-set-purchased-at-kinokuniya-in

There's a Kinokuniya store in San Francisco, so I might check there sometime since it's an hour from where I live. And there's a karuta club in SF and it's doing a demonstration/practice for newcomers on April 21 I think! :D

xP Hopefully, later I won't look back and regret this karuta-crazy period.

They are old style Japanese poems so I think they are tough to understand even for Japanese people. For the game you don't need to understand them of course, just remember them but I am glad the shows teach us to appreciate the poems as well.

Break week? You scared me for a minute there, I thought the anime was taking a week off but no, looks like next episode in 5 days. Phew! A week wait is bad enough... too short is right, will rewatch more of season one to tide me over! I started from the beginning, 3 done so far...

What I didn't understand was why Nishida or "Porky" wanted to keep Desktomu-kun out of the playoffs. That seemed weird to me. It's obvious that the new guy Tsukuba was feeling tired, so wouldn't it make more sense to switch him out? Of course, maybe this is more "tough love" teaching from Nishida who seems to have taken interest in helping the new guy. What do you think his reason is?

I have no idea what Porky's reason could be, but I'm sure he has a strategic explanation for it. Perhaps since Desk-kun is really smart, Porky wants him to handle the scouting and figure out the strengths and weaknesses of their opponents, since they obviously have some really tough competition ahead of them.

My guess, I think more scouting by Desktomu-kun would improve his own chances of winning when they place him in the final round instead of just the next one. Plus other teams will be out scouting, so if DK doesn't play right away, they can't scout him, so he will gain further advantage from being unknown.

The little convo below came from the Post the anime you've watched today thread... figured it would be more appropriate to continue the discussion in this thread than over there.

Chihayafuru season one 2-3

Holy smokes, you're watching season 1 again?!?

Yes, I bought the import BDs for Chihayafuru season one and I am really enjoying them. I listened to the two bonus drama CD episodes that came with volumes 8-9, just can't get enough of the sounds of Karuta, the wonderful seiyuu performances and the great music of this series.

Can I ask about those 2 drama CD episodes? Is there anything juicy or interesting that took place in them (or anything that we should know that would enhance the overall storyline of the anime)? And how long are those drama eps?

LOL When I wrote it that was still fresh in my mind... and I watched it again since I typed it out.. I am an unabashed marathoner so it's still unusual for me to watch simulcasts (to give you an idea.. I started watching simulcasts when Usagi Drop came out..) and even season 1 of Chihaya I watched every week.. but this season seems more fast pace so it seems the episodes are shorter and further apart.. Maybe because I'm reaaaaaally enjoying it?

They are part one and two of "Chihayafuru - Konjaku Monogatari" "Chihayafuru - Tales of Times Now Past" 18 minutes each but are mostly fictional tales about Chihayahime / Princess Chihaya as a take on "Taketori Monogatari" or "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter" but instead of Princess Kaguya it is princess Chihaya. The other seiyuu play roles with the same family name but differ first name. But it is modified to be about Karuta. They are briefly their present day characters as well as Chihaya seems to be dreaming of being the princess while spaced out during a match or something though they also get a view of the future from the past. Just fun, nothing missed from the actual story; not sure if this was in the manga as I have not read it.

It is great to marathon sports anime. Matches are tough with cliffhanger endings...
