Well I'm having the same issues with other series that love the cliffhanger ending. :p I mean it's not a bad device.. just that for someone who is used to marathoning.. it's painful. LOL

Yes though marathoning the first season is tough, twelve hours worth in two cour! It's good though! The start isn't so intense but once nationals start it is hard to stop watching...

Yes, there are some series that just about killed me when watching or reading them live. Manga is even worse, some comes out monthly and then skips months. If you wait for the next tankobon it can be months or years until you find out what happens if they do a cliffhanger so there are some that I buy and read or watch all at once just so I don't die of suspense. There have been some manga where if I hadn't had the last few chapters in the tankobon all at once I don't know if I could have taken the wait; I flipped to the last page to see what happened and couldn't breathe until I did, it was that intense! Harder to do with anime...

Chihayafuru anime is tough right now as it has diverged from the manga hasn't it? I am not reading the manga but from what I understand isn't Sumire an anime-only character?

No Sumire is not an anime-only.. not sure where you are hearing that. I spoiled myself a bit and I don't know where anyone is getting that it's diverting.. it's really close.

The Chihayafuru wiki lists her first anime episode but not her first manga chapter so I assumed she was anime only. Sorry for starting rumors. Must see if there is a boxed set of the manga... Thanks for the correction!!!

If I can quote you again... do you know how far into the 20 manga volumes (20 just came out) that the show is? When I buy it I will buy all 20 but I'm just wondering are we 10 books in or mostly caught up? Thanks!

For what it's worth (my Japanese is still pretty basic), I bought the official Chihayafuru fan book (Kinokuniya bookstore here in the States), which I think was published in 2012 or maybe even 2011-- definitely before the second season began in any case. Hamano Sumire is listed among the main characters already at that time. Slogging at a slow pace through the book, definitely some spoilers, and so far, I haven't come across really much of anything in the anime that's greatly divergeant from the fan book, which appears mostly based off the manga with only a few bits towards the back about the anime itself.

Cool. Again I ask where we are because annoyingly on Amazon right now I can get volumes 1-7, 10, 17-20 if I act right now... That would leave me some major holes and if they bring the 1-20 box set out again (sold out now) then I can't buy it because I already have a mixed bag of 12/20 volumes, argh. So I will probably just wait until they are all in stock or a new boxed set comes out...

Unless... they are up to volume 15 in the anime in which case I could buy 17-20 and get ahead of the game.

I mean I need another series to read like I need another hole in my head, I already buy way to much to read but... I love this series! And the art looks so good!

Wow, I must have been gone awhile. I didn't realize how much people are following Chihayafuru 2. It's nice that it's getting the recognition it deserves.

I think I should post my thought per episode here more often. Season 2 isn't as strong as season 1 but I hope it pulls through for the second half of its run.

Oi, I think many might disagree with u there! Personally, I'm getting more anxious each week.

I guess we differ in perspectives. I know more people are enjoying the comedy and more development on the romance especially since Arata and the Queen have more appearances now. Personally those things weren't the ones that hooked me to this anime. It was the rich growth of the characters. It's still there but the awkward pacing doesn't allow me to savor those moments. There are times I wish they would focus on those lingering questions instead, but then the focus would suddenly shift to another plot element.

I loved season one and two is great as well, feels as it should, like a direct continuation. Keeps me wanting more! Sadly, only 16 more episodes...
